2 TIMOTHY 1 NOT OF FEAR BUT OF LOVE Posted on August 14, 2023 by ilmaarts August 15 ________________________________________ 2 TIMOTHY 1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God according to the promise of the life that is in Christ Jesus,2 To Timothy, my beloved child: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.3 I thank God whom I serve, as did my ancestors, with a clear conscience, as I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day. 4 As I remember your tears, I long to see you, that I may be filled with joy. 5 I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. 6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, 7 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. – 2 Timothy 1:1-7 ________________________________________ 2 TIMOTHY 1 NOT OF FEAR BUT OF LOVE A poem inspired by these verses by ILMA To all the people of God: let us remember Christ’s love for us He died for our sins so we can be reconciled with God the Father We were made for God and our purpose is to serve him only God is love and he created us and patterned us after his image The Lord is Almighty, Sovereign and Wonderful He passed on to us his love, power and self-control This is why we need to stir up the gifts God gave us We cannot be timid and hide such talents and blessings. Gifts were not given for our own purpose but to praise God Let us be brave to proclaim such gifts to let his Kingdom come Be bold and courageous to fan into flame these spiritual blessings The Holy Spirit will give us courage to do so to build up the body of Christ Do not be afraid to hone these gifts, all those who live in fear do not know him God is love and those who know God are also able to live fearlessly If you know God and serve him, it is not fear but love that stirs you Timidity and fear are not from God but they are hidden lies that you listen to. ________________________________________ REFLECTION • How is “living in fear” an indication that you do not know God? • Why are we asked to stir up or fan into flames the gifts we received from God?
