ECCLESIASTES 6 THE MEANINGLESSNESS OF A DISSATISFIED LIFE Posted on September 17, 2023 by ilmaarts September 17 ________________________________________ ECCLESIASTES 6 There is an evil that I have seen under the sun, and it lies heavy on mankind: 2 a man to whom God gives wealth, possessions, and honor, so that he lacks nothing of all that he desires, yet God does not give him power to enjoy them, but a stranger enjoys them. This is vanity; it is a grievous evil. 3 If a man fathers a hundred children and lives many years, so that the days of his years are many, but his soul is not satisfied with life’s good things, and he also has no burial, I say that a stillborn child is better off than he. 4 For it comes in vanity and goes in darkness, and in darkness its name is covered. 5 Moreover, it has not seen the sun or known anything, yet it finds rest rather than he. 6 Even though he should live a thousand years twice over, yet enjoy no good—do not all go to the one place? – Ecclesiastes 6:1-6 ________________________________________ ECCLESIASTES 6 THE MEANINGLESSNESS OF A DISSATISFIED LIFE A poem inspired by these verses by ILMA A man is born with gifts given to him by his Creator God made man in his image so he can serve his Savior But while we are still on earth, we will always be dissatisfied The curse has twisted how we perceive our calling from God. The gifts he gave to man was to be used to serve his Master What a sad fate that he handed over his gifts to the deceiver This is why we can never truly be content in this earthly life We fail to see that we this isn’t our destiny and life is meaningless. Why have all the gifts given to man when he cannot enjoy it at all He toils hard so he can make a difference in this life, yet he fails He strives so hard to keep up with all the world’s standards Yet he still feels empty inside and continue to feel dissatisfied. ________________________________________ REFLECTION • Why do you think most humans are never satisfied? • What are the causes of dissatisfaction or discontent in our lives? • According to these following verses, why does a man who has everything still feels dissatisfied?
