The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along the right paths, bringing honor to his name. – Psalm 23:1-2 (NLT)
LIKE A CAST DOWN SHEEP
A poem and essay by ILMA
I was hurting so much when you comforted me
You carried me on your shoulder and heard my plea
Like a cast down sheep, I couldn’t stand on my feet
You let me rest in the green meadow by the stream.
My strength was renewed when you came to my rescue
You guided me along the right path so I won’t be askew
You are my shepherd, I have all that I need
You are my Lord, thank you for your wondrous deed.

Sheep has always been likened to man in the bible. There are many characteristics of this animal that are almost like humans. They are not very smart, they always stray, restless, stubborn, and very awkward. They depend so much on the shepherd to lead them and easily gets lost. When a sheep falls flat on his back, he couldn’t help himself to get up and can actually die without assistance.
The bible tells us that the Lord is our shepherd. He renews and restores us. He guides us to the right paths.
PRAYER
Lord, let me constantly depend on you.
REFLECTION
When was the last time you were cast down and God came to rescue you?
