OUR HELP IS IN THE NAME OF THE LORD
If it had not been the LORD who was on our side-let Israel now say-
2 If it had not been the LORD who was on our side when people rose up against us,
3Then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their anger was kindled against us;
4 Then the flood would have swept us away the torrent would have gone over us;
5 Then over us would have gone the raging waters.
6 Blessed be the LORD, who has not given us as prey to their teeth!
7 We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowlers;
The snare is broken, and we have escaped!
8 Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
-Psalm 124:1-8

This song of ascents written by David points to how God has delivered them faithfully from all the dangers and enemies that they were up against. We hear David’s gratitude and humility in this psalm as he always points to the Lord whenever they face threats, that if it had not been for the Lord, they would have never made it. He praises and acknowledges God for all the protection and provision He has given them. How many of us would easily attribute to God all the good things we have especially when we just overcome or went through danger or trials?

ADORATION: Praise you Lord for your generous and unfailing love. You are the only One who can deliver us from any evil. Bless you Lord, for your protection and love for us.
CONFESSION: Grant me pardon whenever I don’t point to your provision and protection and take credit instead for overcoming something that was difficult.
THANKSGIVING: Thank you for your unconditional love that you extend help and provision even though at times I don’t deserve it.
SUPPLICATION: May all believers have a heart like David, who never forgets the hierarchy of God in their lives. May we never forget that all good things come from God.

REFLECTION
• What do we need to do so we can always point to the Lord when we are delivered from a difficult situation?
• Why is gratitude and humility essential in a believer’s life?
