Jesus called out in a loud voice. “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”

ABANDONED
A poem and essay by ILMA
When times are rough and you feel abandoned
Be at peace for you are not alone when you are lonesome
Remember that Jesus cried out “Why have you forsaken me?”
He too needed strength and the courage to do God’s will.
When everyone has turned their backs on you
Run to God and he will strengthen and make you new
He is always faithful and will never allow you to be deserted
He loves you immensely and gave his Son so don’t ever feel neglected.

The consequences of abandonment and neglect in a child are detrimental to their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well being. Some studies say that it creates emotionally starved children who are confused and unstable and will suffer lasting psychological effect. Child neglect and abandonment is a crisis in our society. I was emotionally abandoned by both parents because of their choice to prioritize their careers instead of their family. The aftermath of such desertion scarred me deeply and made me live in a very insecure and unstable path. I didn’t have stability to be in healthy relationships because of so much fear of being forsaken or neglected. I felt so invisible for many years. The bible tells us that even Jesus felt abandoned at the time of his death.
PRAYER
Lord, remind me to cry out to you when I feel abandoned.
REFLECTION
When was the last time you felt abandoned?
