Sept 1 The Power of God’s Word
Turn my eyes from worthless things and give me life through your word.
– Psalm 119:37(NLT)
AVOIDING DISTRACTIONS
A poem and essay by ILMA
Lord, show me how to de-clutter my life
Cleanse me from all impurities and shed me light
Turn my eyes from worthless things and all distractions
Show me how to focus on your word to avoid temptations.
When I get weak and vulnerable, prompt me to choose right
When I am tired and lonely, please give me insight
Let me hunger for your word always
It will guide me to follow your ways.
Do you easily get distracted by many things in life? Sometimes when I pray, I end up doing something else. The enemy tricks us and derails us from focusing on the word and spending time with God. The last thing he wants us to do is to be faithful to pray and reflect on God’s word. What do you do when you get distracted? One of the many tactics of the enemy is to tell lies to our minds and to bring distractions to keep us away from our relationship with God and others.
The bible says that we have to turn our eyes from worthless things and get into the word of God. What are worth our time? Anything that is true, right, honorable, just and lovely.
PRAYER
Lord, help me to focus on you always.
REFLECTION
How is the word of God an antidote to distractions?
