ON CRITICISM AND SELF-CONFIDENCE
A poem by ILMA
When you become a believer, you mustn’t speak ill of each other
If you criticize and judge one another, you are attacking God’s law
The only thing we need to do is to obey God’s commands
You can’t think that the decree is only for others to follow
God alone, who gave the law, is the Judge
He alone has the power to save or to destroy
What right do you have to judge your neighbor?
You can’t predict or foresee what is going to happen in the future
You can’t assume that your plans are going to all happen
How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow?
Your life is like a mist, it is there now but can be gone next day
As believers, you need to rely only on God’s grace and plans
You cannot predict things will happen for that is a form of boasting
All boasting is evil and remember it is sin to know what to do and not do it.

MEMORY VERSE
Don’t speak evil against each other, dear brothers and sisters. If you criticize and judge each other, then you are criticizing and judging God’s law. But your job is to obey the law, not to judge whether it applies to you. – James 4:11
Read: James 4:11-17
Why is it easy for us to criticize than to affirm someone? It is part of our fallen nature to point other people’s sin or weaknesses rather than examine our own faults. When we talk evil of others or criticize them, we are questioning God’s creation. All of us are created by God, so what right do we have to say that his creation is evil or mediocre?

REFLECTION
• Why do you think assumption and presumption is a form of boasting?
• Why does James consider boasting as evil? What is the source of arrogance?
• What are the consequences of judging or criticizing someone?
• Why is omitting to do what you know you need to do is considered a sin?

REQUIREMENTS FOR CHURCH LEADERS Poem Devotional

REQUIREMENTS FOR CHURCH LEADERS
A poem by ILMA
If someone desires to be a church leader, he seeks a moral position
A church leader must be someone whose life is blameless
He must be faithful to his spouse and must exercise self-control
Living wisely and having a good reputation teaching are requirements as well.
A church leader must enjoy having guests in his or her home
He cannot be a heavy drinker or be violent to anyone
He must be gentle, not quarrelsome, and not love money
He must manage his own family well and have respectful and obedient children.
If a man cannot manage his own household, how can he take care of God’s church?
A church leader mustn’t be a new believer, because he might become proud and fall
People outside church must speak well of him so he won’t fall into the devil’s trap.
In the same way, deacons must be well respected and have integrity
They must not be heavy drinkers or dishonest with money
They must be committed to the mystery of the faith
And they also must live with a clear conscience.

MEMORY VERSE
If someone aspires to be a church leader, he desires an honorable position.
– 1 Timothy 3:1
Read: 1 Timothy 3:1-13
It is sad that some churches have compromised their spiritual growth. Some churches fail to refer to the requirements laid by the Lord in the bible regarding church leaders’ selection.

REFLECTION
• Why is it important to re-think if you are wanting to be a church leader?
• Why do we need to be very careful in selecting leaders of a congregation if we are members of the board or appointees?
• Why do you think Paul requires blameless living for church leaders?

PRODUCE LASTING FRUIT Poem Devotional

You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for using my name. – John 15:16(NLT)
PRODUCE LASTING FRUIT
A poem and essay by ILMA
God chose us first to be his people
He wants us to abide in Him to be fruitful
He appointed us to produce lasting fruit
We will reap a harvest if we live in his truth.
To produce the fruits of the Spirit
We need to seek his word and follow it
We can ask anything in His name when we have fruits
He will grant our heart’s desires if His word is taking root.
________________________________________When we become believers, we think that we chose Jesus to be our Lord and Savior. What some Christians often to fail to remember is that He chose us first. Nothing we do is really from our own. His plans are already clear to Him from the beginning of time. He knows everything including our heart, our desires, our dreams and the health of our spirits.
We are called to produce lasting fruit so that the Father will grant our requests in Jesus’ name. It sounds like it a condition for us to be able to have an outpouring of blessings from the heavenly Father. A lot of people misinterpret the “give you whatever you ask in my name” verse. Anything outside of God’s will, He definitely won’t grant.

Lord, help me to focus on growing my faith to produce your Spirit’s fruits.

WHOLEHEARTED WORSHIP Poem Devotional

Let all that I am praise the Lord. – Psalm 146:1(NLT)
WHOLEHEARTED WORSHIP
A poem and essay by ILMA
Jesus Christ died to give his life for you
He loves you so and wants you to be renewed
Let all that you are praise the Lord Almighty
He is the only one that can bring you victory.
Bring your heart, mind and soul to your Creator
Be faithful to devote your life to your only Savior
Wholehearted worship makes you intimate with God
It brings your focus to pleasing your Father up above.
________________________________________
“Worship” is an active response to the character, words and actions of God, initiated by His revelation and enabled by His redemption, whereby the mind is transformed, the heart is renewed and actions are surrendered all in accordance with His will and in order to declare His infinite worthiness. In both Hebrew and Greek, there are two categories of words for worship. The first is about body language that demonstrates respect and submission; to bow down, to kneel, to prostrate oneself. The second is about doing something for God that demonstrates sacrifice and obedience; to offer, to serve.
So how can a believer manifest wholehearted worship? A Christian may use different ways to worship the Lord, but the main point in worship is to give yourself to your creator and focus only your whole being to glorifying the most divine and holy person, the Lord Jesus Christ.

WHEN PERSECUTED Poem Devotional

God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
– Matthew 5:10(NLT)
WHEN PERSECUTED
A poem and essay by ILMA
When you are undergoing much oppression
Don’t give up or give in to depression
Be joyful when you are being persecuted
For the faithful will definitely be protected.
Do what is right even if others maltreat you
You need not give in, stick to what is true
You will inherit the kingdom of heaven
The Lord is faithful to all his brethren.
________________________________________
There may be times when people are oppressing you for doing and following the word and commands of the Lord. It shouldn’t matter because what is important is that God knows what is going on and he has your backs covered. It may seem bleak but there is always a light that the Lord shines bright on those who are being persecuted. They are special to him because they will be heirs to his heavenly kingdom.
I have been set aside many times because of my close relationship with the Lord. It never discouraged me because I know how faithful the Lord is to all his promises. I also know that he is Spirit and that those who don’t live in the Spirit will not understand the ways of the Lord. Be encouraged if you are marginalized because of your faith for you will be spiritual millionaires when you do what’s right.

PRAYER
Lord, help me to focus on you when I am persecuted.
REFLECTION
Why do you think persecution for doing what’s right is rewarded by God?

How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults.
-Psalm 19:12(NLT)
CLEANSING PRAYER
A poem and essay by ILMA
How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart?
Cleanse me from hidden fault as soon as it starts
You are the only one who knows me inside and out
Only you can lead me to the righteous route.
Purify my intentions and let me not be distracted
Only your grace can keep me focused and motivated
Forgive me when I become so self-centered and waylaid
Grant me mercy so I can have the courage to be brave.
________________________________________
There are occasions when we get sidetracked and distracted with the things we do in life. The enemy wants us to be busy so that we won’t have time for God. When Satan traps us into his “worldly pleasures and standards,” it can be so subtle that we don’t even realize that our time, energy and peace were already stolen. One way that I get waylaid is when I start to crave for something. The desire is so indirect that it seems alright at first, then it becomes an obsession and the center of my time and effort. Before I know it, I have lost intimacy with the Lord. The bible tells us that we need to come to Jesus and ask him to constantly examine our hearts.
PRAYER
Lord, bring to my attention any hidden faults and sins I commit.
REFLECTION
How is spending time with God going to bring us victory from our daily spiritual battles?
