FEAR OF THE LORD PREVENTS SIN Poem Devotional

“Don’t be afraid,” Moses answered them, “for God has come in this way to test you, and so that your fear of him will keep you from sinning!” – Exodus 20:20(NLT)
FEAR OF THE LORD PREVENTS SIN
A poem and essay by ILMA
When there is reverence for the heavenly Father
There you will be able to overcome any matter
The Lord may test anyone who commits to him
He wants to protect them from corruption and sin.
Do not be afraid; He is with you always
He will shield so don’t fail to follow his way
Be courageous and keep obeying him
The Lord will ensure that you will win.

When Moses was leading the Israelites to the Promised Land, he had direct orders from the Lord and the people of God was trembling when they heard his voice while he was talking to Moses. Even though they didn’t see him, they have witnessed his power and guidance and all his provision.
In this verse, Moses saw how scared the Israelites were to hear the Lord God Almighty. He assured them that they need not fear him. He explained to them that he may test all those who love him and that when we fear him, we will be able to overcome sin.
To fear the Lord is to revere and honor him, which would mean that we won’t do anything to displease him.

WHAT LEADS TO WISDOM Poem Devotional

May 24________________________________________
Fear of the Lord teaches wisdom; humility precedes honor. -Proverbs15:33(NLT)
WHAT LEADS TO WISDOM
A poem and essay by ILMA
The fear of the Lord teaches wisdom
It delivers you from slavery to freedom
When you revere the Lord and worship him
You will discern his ways and overcome sin.
The humble gives honor to the Father
It leads them to be closer to others
Seeking the Lord brings you near him
Fear of God makes you win over the enemy.

People view wisdom very differently. Most individuals view wisdom as a feat that is achievable through accumulation of information. Some think wisdom can be learned from experiences. The bible tells us that wisdom is a by-product of the fear of the Lord. This may sound bizarre to those who have never heard of God, but most believers are taught that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge in Proverbs 1:7. When we seek him first and his righteousness, he will add all these things to us (Matthew 6:33)
Fear of the Lord means that we worship him and we won’t do anything to displease him. When we revere him, we will want to know what he wants for us. We will obey his commands so that things will go well with us. He also puts emphasis on the importance of humility in our lives because it results in respect and wisdom. When we respect him, we worship him.

PRAYER
Lord, help me to always honor and worship you.
REFLECTION
Why should fear of the Lord come first in everything in our lives?

Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth so let your words be few.
-Ecclesiastes 5:2 (NIV)
KNOW YOUR PLACE BEFORE GOD
A poem and essay by ILMA
When you speak to the Lord, do you prepare what to say?
Do you have a stance or posture that you follow when you pray?
When you converse with God, do not be quick with your mouth
Remember that he knows already what you’re going to speak about.
Know your place before God; revere him with all your heart and mind
Do not lean on your own understanding so you can discern and find
God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few
He knows everything and can see things in a bigger view.

Many different religions have different rituals and ways to worship and pray to their gods. What is so amazing with Christianity is that despite the fact that we have a very powerful and all-knowing God, he still wants us to have a personal relationship with him. He brought his Son amongst us so we can be closer to him. He gave the Holy Spirit so he can actually live in our hearts and direct us to the right path. The bible says that we must know our place before God.
PRAYER
Lord, remind me always where I stand before you.
REFLECTION
Why is it important never to forget our place in our relationship with God?

HUMAN MIGHT VERSUS FEAR OF THE LORD Poem Devotional

April 2
He takes no pleasure in the strength of a horse or in human might. No, the Lord’s delight is in those who fear him, those who put their hope in his unfailing love.
– Psalm 147:10-11 (NLT)
HUMAN MIGHT VERSUS FEAR OF THE LORD
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you boast about your own strength?
Do you know what the cross really meant?
God doesn’t care about your human might
He cares for those who follow him and do right.
He takes no pleasure in works of the flesh
He is after those who love him and invest
He delights in those who fear him and obey
He transforms those who apply what he says.
For many years of my life, I took so much pleasure in knowing that I am able to follow through a goal or a plan based on a deadline I set. I took pride in what I did because I know I was good at whatever I set my mind on. I took credit for every little thing I achieved. I was a fool then. I didn’t realize that I was actually competing with God and totally disregarding and disrespecting him. Until one day, the spirit of God revealed to me what the cross really meant. I didn’t have to prove my worth because Jesus died for my sins. God doesn’t delight in performance, he is only concerned with how much you love him and others.
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for dying for me.
REFLECTION
How can you give up performing and focus on loving?
