DO YOU DESIRE TO GET WELL?
A poem by ILMA
Afterward Jesus returned to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish holy days
Inside the city, near the Sheep Gate, the pool of Bethesda had 5 covered porches
Crowds of sick people—blind, lame, or paralyzed—lay on the entrances
One of the men lying there had been sick for thirty-eight long years.
Jesus saw him and knew he had been ill for a long time
He approached the lame man and asked him “Would you like to get well?”
“I can’t, sir for I have no one to put me into the pool when the water bubbles up
Someone else always gets there first ahead of me and I don’t get a chance”
Jesus approached and told him, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk!”
Instantly, the man was healed! He rolled up his sleeping mat and began walking!
But this miracle happened on the Sabbath, so the Jewish leaders objected
They said to the man who was cured, “You can’t work on the Sabbath!
The law doesn’t allow you to carry that sleeping mat!”
The cured man said, “The one who healed me told me to ‘Pick up your mat and walk.’”
“Who said such a thing as that?” they asked but the man didn’t know for Jesus left
Later, Jesus found him in the Temple and told him, “Now you’re well; so, stop sinning
The man went and told the Jewish leaders that it was Jesus who had healed him.

MEMORY VERSE
When Jesus saw him and knew he had been ill for a long time, he asked him, “Would you like to get well?” – John 5:6
Read: John 5:1-15
It is interesting in this controversial miracle of Jesus on the Sabbath that angered the Jewish leaders that he asked a question that he already knew the answer. “Would you like to get well?” Why? When we desire to get well, God wants us to have an active part in it and a desire to do so before He can actually heal us.

REFLECTION
• Why is it necessary for us to have an active part in getting well before we even ask for healing?

TURN TO GOD FOR HEALING Poem Devotional

September 8________________________________________
Plug their ears and shut their eyes. That way, they will not see with their eyes, nor hear with their ears, nor understand with their hearts and turn to me for healing.
-Isaiah 6:10(NLT)
TURN TO GOD FOR HEALING
A poem and essay by ILMA
When something besets you in life
You would want to turn to Christ
He can make you unable to hear or see
He wants you to rely on him regularly.
When you rely on yourself for things
He will make you unable to see
This way you can turn to him for healing
He is waiting for you to depend on him.

The Israelites took an eleven-day journey into a forty year wandering. Why did they take that long? They were complaining and very stubborn people and had little faith. Despite all the miracles that God provided for them so they can increase their faith, they actually turned their backs on him and worshiped other Gods. So, God made them unable to hear and see what he is planning to do for them. All that God wants them to do is to obey and to stay faithful and look up to his promises. He didn’t want them to be self-sufficient and independent.
Don’t we behave like the Israelites at times? Don’t we resort to many things to heal ourselves instead of running to the greatest healer of all times?

PRAYER
Lord, help me never to forget to rely on you especially for healing.
REFLECTION
Why do you think God makes us unable to hear and see some of his plans?

My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body. -Proverbs 4:20-22(NLT)
LIFE AND HEALING FROM THE WORD
A poem and essay by ILMA
The Lord asks his children to pay attention to his word
The word will guide them to navigate in this world
He recommends them never to lose sight of it
For they bring life and healing to those who seek it.
Meditate on what Scriptures say and you’ll see his light
It will make you discern the Holy Spirit’s insight
The word is alive and brings healing to your pains
Pursue it and be hungry for it and you will reap gains.

When I re-committed my life to Jesus and became a born again Christian, He also gave me a hunger for his word. I used to be obsessed with knowledge and I read a lot of books in the past. Reading the word of God is very different from just reading any other book on any topic. The difference is that it is alive. 2 Timothy 3:16 says that all Scriptures is God-breathed and is there to convict us, teach us and guide us to do the right thing. It took God’s truth to heal five decades of traumas and strongholds in an instant.

Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. Do not banish me from your presence and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore me the joy of your salvation and make me willing to obey you. Psalm 51:10-12(NLT)
PRAYER FOR RESTORATION
A poem and essay by ILMA
Lord, I feel tired and overwhelmed by adversities
The enemy has kept me busy with much activities
My peace was compromised and I am feeling helpless
Reveal to me why I feel so much emptiness.
Create in me a clean heart and renew my loyalty
Do not take away your Holy Spirit from me
Restore me the joy of your salvation and help me obey
I plead you to give me heal and strengthen me each day.

There are days I wake up in a very sad mood. It usually happens when I get very busy with many activities and when I don’t have time to reflect at the end of the day. I usually journal and have a conversation with God each morning when I wake up but sometimes don’t have time to pray before bedtime because I am still finishing a project or chore.
The bible summons us to pray for restoration and cleansing of our hearts. It is important to remember that we must never grieve the Holy Spirit so we can hear what he is teaching or convicting us with.
PRAYER
Lord, I need you especially when I am weak and overwhelmed.
REFLECTION
Why is it important for us to have quiet moments with God daily?

The Lord says, “I will give you back what you lost.” -Joel 2:25(NLT)
PRAYER FOR RESTORATION
A poem and essay by ILMA
Lord, I am worn out from life’s challenges
Will you give me strength to face changes?
Some days are more difficult than other days
Will you give me hope to sustain each and everyday?
You said in your word that you’ll give back what I lost
Give me a new perspective as I look and focus on the cross
Heal me and restore my mind, body, soul and spirit
Help me to have victory and never again be beat.

When someone experiences pain or loss, it is challenging to go on with life with the same joy and peace one use to have. I lost so many things in my life. I lost my childhood, my beloved grandfather who was the only one who understood me and gave me a love for nature. I lost my purity, my identity during a divorce, my freedom to speak my own thoughts and feelings and my careers and ability to earn a decent living. These are many loses that I never even realized had made much impact in my life. It changed the way I saw the world and it dragged me to the pit of anger, unhappiness, rebellion and bondage to sin. I thank God that he has pulled me out of that abyss. He restored me and made me new.
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for bringing light into my dark pit.
REFLECTION
What can you do to get back the loses you have had over these years?

November 8________________________________________
Have compassion on me, Lord, for I am weak. Heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony. I am sick at heart. –Psalm 6:2-3(NLT)
PLEA FOR HEALING
A poem and essay by ILMA
Oh Lord, my God, have compassion on me
Heal my soul that I may have victory over sin
The enemy has stolen my peace and joy
Will you grant me restoration so I can rejoice?
I plead for your forgiveness and mercy
Let me not be overwhelmed in the valley
Soak me in your blood so my soul can be free
Have pity on the weak and those who cannot see.
________________________________________
Many painful and traumatic events in my life have scarred me deeply but God is so faithful and merciful that he has pulled me out of the rubbles in this world. It doesn’t exempt me from still having troubles and challenges in my life. I am being healed continually by the Lord. It is a process and he is walking me through it by giving me people and who underwent much more pain than I could ever experience. It is amazing to see the miracles God has done to those sinners who have done crimes that no one could ever imagine. How he used these people considered trash by society to proclaim his glory is beyond me.
The bible says that the Lord has compassion and will heal all our illnesses and weaknesses.
PRAYER
Lord, heal my soul that has been affected by my past sins.
REFLECTION
Why is it important that we ask God to heal our souls from past sins?
