I am exhausted from crying for help, my throat is parched. My eyes are swollen with weeping, waiting for my God to help me. –Psalm 69:3(NLT)
PLEADING FOR HELP
A poem and essay by ILMA
My throat is dry and tears welling down my cheeks
I am exhausted from crying for help as I speak
I plead God to save my loved ones from their unbelief
It is so painful to see their lives in bondage and without relief.
If only they can see how much they are missing
They are blinded by the world, so they keep on sinning
Lord, have mercy on me and save my family
Bring us light and peace so we can have harmony.
God acknowledges a believer who has a humble heart. He is touched when someone gets down on his or her knees and declares weaknesses and need for God. He loves an honest and pure heart.
In Psalm 69:3, the psalmist is describing his posture while he pleads for God’s help. He honestly opens up his heart and weeps, waiting for God’s help. Daniel’s prayer in chapter 9 in the bible clearly manifests the power of a humble man who intercedes for Israel. He asked forgiveness even if he was pure. He pleaded God to give the Israelites another chance. Because of his plea, the Israelites were spared.
PRAYER
Lord, give me a humble heart.
REFLECTION
Why is it important to have a humble heart that pleads?

WRAPPED IN STRIPS OF CLOTH

December 23                                                                  The Power of God’s Word
The Savior-yes, the Messiah, the Lord-has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David. And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.-Luke 2:11-12 (NLT)
WRAPPED IN STRIPS OF CLOTH
A poem and essay by ILMA
Why did Jesus come wrapped in strips of cloth?
Why did kings come to give respect and pay him tribute?
Why did God choose a manger for him to be born?
He could have chosen a palace comfortable for his Son.
The strips of cloth cannot be bought
They symbolize humility that has to be sought
A baby wrapped snugly in strips of rag
Shows perfect humility and perfect love.
A manger is a long open box or trough for horses or cattle to eat from. Why did God choose a manger for Jesus to be born in? Is Jesus food that animals need to feed on? What a sense of humor God has. He brought Jesus into this world on a manger. Does that mean we have to feed on Jesus? Isn’t Jesus the food for our soul and spirit? The bible describes how the Savior, the Messiah was wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger. God chose Jesus to come as a baby in a feeding through.
PRAYER
Lord, show me how to feed on Jesus.
REFLECTION
What vulnerabilities do you struggle with that needs to be given up to God?

NOTHING ON MY OWN Poem Devotional

canadablooms 019 (2)Aug 18                                                        The Power of God’s Word
I do nothing on my own but say only what the father taught me.
– John 8:28(NLT)
NOTHING ON MY OWN
A poem and essay by ILMA
Can you do anything without Christ?
Without God’s guide, there will be no light
Jesus did nothing on his own
He reaped what his father sown.
If you believe in the Lord
You must bring him all applaud
You can do nothing without the father
You must love all your sisters and brothers.
Many years of my life, I lived for pleasing the “self.” That was what the world taught me to be. I aimed at a goal to achieve and success at getting it was something to be proud of. My parents taught me the value of setting goals and working hard at achieving reaching them.”If I focused on achieving my goals, I will be a success” became my philosophy for a long time. Sadly, no matter how much achievements I got, I still felt empty and lost. The only time I felt peace and joy was when I was freed from this worldly principle of taking pride in my achievements. The bible convicted me of my pride in my own work.
Jesus did nothing out of his own, but only did what God taught him. He spoke only what God would say and did what he commanded.
PRAYER
Lord, I completely surrender to you.
REFLECTION
Why do we need to align our life to God’s will?

NOTHING WITHOUT GOD Poem Devotional

downtown orangeville 001May 6                                                                             The Power of God’s Word
I can do nothing on my own, I judge as God tells me. Therefore, my judgment is just, because I carry out the will of the one who sent me, not my own will.
– John 5:30 (NLT)
NOTHING WITHOUT GOD
A poem by ILMA
Whenever you do things separate from God’s will
You make yourself vulnerable for the enemy to steal
God made humans so they can love him back
He doesn’t want people to be isolated and have a lack.
Christ didn’t do anything separate from God’s plans
He obeyed and did all his Father’s commands
The son carried out the will of the Father
He was a perfect example to his sisters and brothers.
Do you consult God when you make a decision or do something? There are many reasons why we fail or succeed in life. We will never be able to comprehend why we fall short of something or why someone else succeeds and we don’t. Has it ever occurred to you that it might be because you didn’t have the humility to ask God? It might be because you have been taking credit for something that God needs to be praised for.
The bible tells us that we can do nothing on our own. Even Christ who was divine had the humility to do nothing without God’s consent.
PRAYER
Lord, grant me a hunger to align my will with yours.
