SEARCHING WHOLEHEARTEDLY Poem Devotional

If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. -Jeremiah 29:13(NLT)
SEARCHING WHOLEHEARTEDLY
A poem and essay by ILMA
When you search wholeheartedly for Jesus Christ
He will satiate your hunger for him in your life
Those who seek will surely find him
In their hearts will live his Holy Spirit.
He will only show himself to those who abide
He sees your heart, so don’t entertain pride
Guard that your mind, soul and spirit are his’ alone
It will bring you victory when you trust in his precious Son.

Treasure hunting doesn’t need to be expensive. You don’t really have to be part of an exploration team in order to reap the fruits of this adventurous hobby. You can go hunting for treasures in your own home, old places, neighborhood, thrift shops or even abandoned places. I love a show in Britain that features a well awarded lady designer who goes to the junkyard before people throw away their stuff. In each episode, she tries to salvage three items that she will convert into an upcycled product or totally re-use it for a different purpose. It is amazing how she converts junk into money making treasures.
I love to go through thrift shops, garage sales or even look at what people throw away in the curbs along their houses.
The bible says that if you search wholeheartedly for the Lord, you will find him, just like discovering a treasure.

PRAYER
Lord, keep me hunting for your truths and promises.
REFLECTION
What happens when you seek the Lord with all your heart?

Give me an eagerness for your laws rather than a love for money. Turn my eyes from worthless things, and give me life through your word. -Psalm 119:36-37(NLT)
TURN MY EYES FROM WORTHLESS THINGS
A poem and essay by ILMA
Lord, I ask that you protect me from this world
Let me never choose to sin but seek your word
Turn my eyes from worthless things and love for money
Help me to hunger for you alone and not to please me.
Give me an eagerness for your commands and truth
Let me focus on seeking you so your word can take root
Allow me to be obedient to you at all cost so I can be victorious
Never allow the enemy to confuse me and bring chaos.

Have you ever experienced being distracted and prioritized worthless or trivial things? When we don’t focus on Jesus, we tend to be an easy prey for the enemy to work on. I used to be a busybody, always doing two to six things at a time. I took pride doing many things simultaneously and oftentimes proving that I was a superwoman. What I didn’t realize was that I was trying to fill the emptiness inside by performing and perfecting things.
The bible tells us to have an eagerness for God’s word rather than love for money or for other worldly things. It is only through God’s word that we have life.
PRAYER
Lord, let me never be distracted but always focus on you.
REFLECTION
What keeps you from focusing on the Lord and his word?

God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. – Galatians 4:5(NLT)
ADOPTED AS HIS OWN
A poem and essay by ILMA
When you sinned, you were separated from Him
He gave his only begotten Son so you will be redeemed
We were slaves to law until Christ gave us freedom
We were lost, but God took us all for adoption.
He accepted us and took us in his wings
He gave us wisdom so we could see
He gave Christ so we can be righteous
He freed us from sin and so we can be glorious.

Being orphaned can be isolating. Losing one of your parents or even both of them could be very overwhelming and can leave a feeling of emptiness. Each person longs to belong to someone. Orphans search for their biological parents even if they are still adopted by good people. A part of each person wants to know their origin. Somehow it makes them feel whole to do that.
The bible says that God sent his only son so we could be freed from slavery to the law. He wants to adopt us as his own children even after we have separated ourselves from him through sin and disobedience. The role that the blood of Jesus did to us is to free us from the debt and slavery of sin.
PRAYER
Lord, help us to accept your adoption fully.
REFLECTION
When did you ever feel you didn’t belong to God?

CAN’T HIDE FROM GOD Poem Devotional

I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night – but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. – Psalm 139:11-12 (NLT)
CAN’T HIDE FROM GOD
A poem and essay by ILMA
When you are living in chaos and darkness
You can run to God for light and brightness
No matter what you do, you cannot hide
He is always there for you to help and guide.
You can choose to stay in the gloom
He overpowers sin so you can bloom
You have nowhere to run to avoid his love
He made you so you can win and rise above.

I ran for so many years from what God wanted me to be. I was consumed by traumas and denied myself the joy that I could have had if only I didn’t turn my back on God. He wanted the best for me but I was so arrogant to even listen or find out what he has in store for me. There was a time that I was so angry with him and hibernated for weeks after he didn’t give me the job I so wanted. I had a big argument with him and blamed him for all the bad things that happened to me. He still gave me a better job than what I wanted. The bible says that we can turn from God but He always sees us.
PRAYER
Lord, help me not resist your light.
REFLECTION
What have you been running from?
