For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind. -James 3:16(NLT)
SYMPTOMS OF JEALOUSY
A poem and essay by ILMA
When there is insecurity in someone’s heart
That’s an opening for the enemy to start
Longing to have something others possess produces envy
It breeds contempt, anger, bitterness and folly.
Wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition
There you will find disorder, chaos and division
Whenever there is discontent and comparison
There’ll be unkind and evil things beyond reason.

Baker’s Evangelical dictionary defines “envy” as the sin of jealousy over the blessings and achievements of others, especially the spiritual advancement that is being done for God’s kingdom. Envy certainly leads to disorder and all kinds of evil, affecting one’s physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being. Unchecked, it slowly leads to a detrimental and regretful way of life ( Proverbs 27:4 ), and eventually, to estrangement from God ( Roman 1:28-32 ). Envy manifests the treacherousness of sin and human wickedness apart from God’s redeeming grace. If you are a believer, it is wise to avoid the company of such envious, godless people ( Proverbs 24:1 ). Envy is listed among the sins of the flesh that must be conquered through the power of the Holy Spirit (1 Peter 2:1 ). Where there is jealousy and selfish ambition, you will find chaos, stagnation and proliferation of other sins.

A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body; jealousy is like cancer in the bones.
-Proverbs 14:30(NLT)
JEALOUSY IS LIKE CANCER
A poem and essay by ILMA
Whenever your heart desires what others have
Be careful! That is not totally walking in love
When you fail to give the Lord thanksgiving
You are going to miss out on many blessings.
Jealousy is like cancer in the bones
Selfishness and Pride is where it comes from
If you think the world owes you something
You lose peace opens the door to continuously sin.

Jealousy is defined as an unhappy or angry feeling of wanting to have what someone else has. Notice the presence of unhappiness and anger in the definition. The origin of jealousy dates back to our first parents, Adam and Eve. The fall of man was an offshoot of jealousy of Adam and Eve. They want to have the all-knowing character of God. Their desire to want to be like him led them to disobey his command not to eat from the fruit from the tree of good and evil. Prior to their sin, they had everything they could ever want. They were well provided for and had no need to toil. After the fall, all sins came about. The mother of all sins is pride. It centers on the “self” rather than others. A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body but jealousy is like cancer. It poisons and kills.

Where there is jealousy, there is selfish ambition

When you find yourself comparing and wanting more
Be careful for the devil can enter your wide open door.

Lack of love and attention as a child taught me how to be jealous. I was criticized and minimized a lot. As a result, I became very insecure and wanting to be given attention. I also learned to compare myself with others especially when my caregivers would say that others were better than me. I became focused on performing to get attention and love. The world taught me to be jealous and insecure as a result of my experiences.
The bible tells us that jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom. These are considered unspiritual and demonic. It says that jealousy and selfish ambition are partners and the result of these partnership is disorder and evil of every kind.
PRAYER
Lord, free me from jealousy and selfishness.

You must worship no other gods, for the Lord, whose very name is Jealous is a God who is jealous about his relationship with you. – Exodus 34:14(NLT)
A JEALOUS GOD
A poem and essay by ILMA
When you commit to God, you must be faithful
He is a very jealous God, he wants you to be truthful
He is very loyal to you so He expects the same
He loves you so he wants you to honor his name.
He doesn’t tolerate idolatry or any competition
He knows he is the only true God without question
He is jealous about his relationship with you
Will you choose to commit to him and be true?

For many decades, I didn’t know that one of my iniquities was idolatry. Because of self-will and independence, the enemy used it to enter my heart. I was blinded by the world’s standard of greatness. I thought that being able to achieve many goals and ambitions was the ultimate indication of success. God proved me wrong. The circumstance that led me to Canada was still an idolatrous act I did. God used it to teach me and convict me of this sin.
The bible tells us that we must not worship other gods for God’s very name is Jealous. He is the essence of love and he expects no less than a sincere and truthful loyalty from those who claim that they love him.
PRAYER
Convict me right away when I become unfaithful to you.
REFLECTION
Why do you think God is a very jealous god?

PEACEFUL HEART EQUALS HEALTHY BODY Poem Devotional

A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body; jealousy is like cancer in the bones.
– Proverbs 14:30 (NLT)
PEACEFUL HEART EQUALS HEALTHY BODY
A poem and essay by ILMA
What is in your heart today?
Is it full of angst or does it pray?
Are you letting God into your life?
Do you seek peace ever so tight?
A peaceful heart brings a fit body
Jealousy is poisonous and unhealthy
Seek peace with all your heart and mind
It will bring you victory and God’s insight.
Jealousy is defined as a strong feeling of possessiveness, often caused by the possibility that something which belongs or ought to belong to one is about to be taken away. I once knew someone who was a very jealous person. It was very stressful to be with jealous people. They are insecure and very cunning. I didn’t know she was very envious of all the things I have until she stirred trouble between me and another common friend. It ruined the relationship between the three of us.
Later on, she was diagnosed with diabetes. She was enslaved by her religiosity.
The bible says that a peaceful heart leads to a healthy body and jealousy is like cancer in the bones. All believers must actively choose peace over any worry or anxiety in life. Peace protects our hearts from being corrupted by all human desires which bring discontent and jealousy.
PRAYER
Lord, deliver me from envy and jealousy.
REFLECTION
How is jealousy is like cancer in the bones?

A JEALOUS GOD Poem Devotional

milcroftnand a, 003

December 6                                                                           The Power of God’s Word
Therefore, I myself, the Sovereign Lord, am now your enemy. I will punish you publicly while all the nations watch. Because of your detestable idols, I will punish you like I have never punished anyone before or ever will again.
– Ezekiel 5:8-9 (NLT)
A JEALOUS GOD
A poem and essay by ILMA
When you professed your love for Jesus
Did you ever consider that he can be very jealous?
He wants you to love him very faithfully
He doesn’t want competition and hates idolatry.
If you put everything else before him
He will reveal to you that it is a sin
He detests idols and considers it adultery
He wants your complete faithfulness and loyalty.
Have you ever experienced jealousy in any of your relationships? In human relationships, jealousy can be a negative behavior. Do you ever wonder where jealousy comes from? In Exodus 34:14, God’s very name is Jealous. So, we must have gotten jealousy it from our spiritual DNA. In God’s economy, jealousy is very different from our worldly view. God is jealous because he knows what is best for us. We were given a glimpse of the wrath of God in Ezekiel 5:8-9 when the Israelites were having idols. God actually showed them how he detested idolatry. James called it adultery in his book.
PRAYER
Lord, keep me faithful to you.
REFLECTION
Do you make God first in everything?

WATCH OUT FOR JEALOUSY Poem Devotional

picnic 2012 ocf 100

July 9                                                                                   The Power of God’s Word
If you are bitterly jealous and there is selfish ambition in your heart, don’t cover up the truth with boasting and lying. For jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual and demonic.
–James 3:14-15 (NLT)
WATCH OUT FOR JEALOUSY
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you find yourself longing for someone or something you don’t have?
Do you feel empty and compare yourself with others and obsess for love?
If you are bitterly jealous and there is selfish ambition in your heart
Don’t cover up the truth; seek God first, be faithful and he will impart.
Jealousy is a poison that contaminates your whole person
It can disguise itself in compliments, concern or reason
Jealousy is rooted in selfishness, pride and envy
It binds you to lies and is a scheme of the enemy.
Watch out for any form of jealousy in your life! The bible cautions us in Galatians 5:19-21 about the manifestations of the sinful nature. Jealousy is one of them. Many bible stories show the aftermath of jealousy. Cain killed Abel because of jealousy. Joseph’s brothers plotted to kill him because their father favored Joseph more than them. Saul plotted to exterminate David because of jealousy. Jealousy roots from selfishness and is not from God.
PRAYER
Lord, keep me away from any form of envy or jealousy.
REFLECTION
How do you deal with jealousy according to the book of James?
