END TO SIN’S CONTROL Poem Devotional

The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins. – Romans 8:3(NLT)
END TO SIN’S CONTROL
A poem and essay by ILMA
When you submit yourself to Christ
You will find victory in this life
The law wasn’t able to save us
Instead it kept us bonded to lust.
God sent his only son as a sacrifice
He did this so we can have eternal life
He brought an end to the control of sin
Let’s exercise dominion over it so we can win.

The bible tells us that we are all sinners and only the act of Christ’s dying on the cross gave us control over sin. When we commit our lives to Jesus, everything is turned over. We begin to experience power that comes from knowing God’s word. We get be convicted by the Holy Spirit and shown a way to win over temptations. In the Old Testament, the law was the only thing that mattered but when Jesus came to the world, everything changed. We are no longer bound by the law but by love and grace that comes from God’s unfailing love.

PRAYER
Lord, remind me to exercise the authority you have given me to win over sin.
REFLECTION
Why do some believers live fearful lives in this world?

The Law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ. – John 1:17(NLT)
FREEDOM FROM LEGALISM
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you find yourself being enslaved by rules and regulations?
Do you follow the law as an exercise to keep on traditions?
The law was given through Moses before the birth of Christ
When God sent his Son, he fulfilled his promise to bring us life.
Jesus summed up the law with the command to love one another
He wants us to relate with him through our sisters and brothers
Christ died for us so we would be delivered from the law
Are you still imprisoned by rules that hinder your growth?
________________________________________
It is sad to see so many people who are imprisoned by rules and traditions. Each step they take is evaluated against these laws and belief system. I used to be one of these legalistic Christian. I almost took pride that I obeyed the law. Nothing wrong with obeying but if obedience to the law is tainted by watching how well one performs or by clinging to certain ways and living in a box, then I think that it will hamper our growth.
Jesus Christ lived out of the law. He walked in love instead and defied very strict inhuman rules set by the Pharisees and Scribes. He built a relationship with others and never judged or condemned anyone.

PRAYER
Lord, show me when there are occasions that I become legalistic.
REFLECTION
How can you break out of the law and live in love?

LET LOVE RULE Poem Devotional

For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power.
– 1 Corinthians 15:56 (NLT)
LET LOVE RULE
A poem and essay by ILMA
Whenever we operate in obedience of the law
It brings more power to sin and hinder us to grow
When we stick to the law just for its sake
We get into the trap that Satan makes.
Love surpasses all understanding and power
When we do things out of love, the enemy cowers
We must all live in the knowledge of God’s grace
Living under his love removes the stress of this rat race.
________________________________________
There are so many Christians living under the law and stuck in the Old Testament. They have no idea that living in it without reference to the New Testament actually make them live under the law. The apostle Paul stressed the importance of living under grace in most of his letter to the Romans and Corinthians. He warns us not to live under the law. He says that the more we focus on the law, the more we sin. In John 13:34 Jesus gives us a new commandment: Love each other just as he loved you.
The bible tells us not to live with so much rules because it makes us sin more. We need to focus on God who is love. When we operate in love, Satan flees and sin has no power.
PRAYER
Lord, help me to live under your love and grace.
REFLECTION
When did the law make you more sinful?

STAY FREE FROM SLAVERY Poem Devotional

collingwood,summer2011 081

So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law. – Galatians 5:1 (NLT)
STAY FREE FROM SLAVERY
A poem and essay by ILMA
When you believed Christ, he made you free
Don’t get tied up again in any form of slavery
Make sure you are regularly seeking God’s Word
It makes you have victory over this corrupt world.
Humanity brings about many forms of bondage
If you are a true believer, you have an advantage
The law that used to enslave you has no more power over you
Love rules your life and the Spirit helps you see God’s view.
When you become a born again Christian, you are given the promise of freedom from any fear or form of slavery. That is the reason why Christ died for you. He gave you freedom so you can use it to exercise love and care for each other and not to serve your own purpose.
The bible tells us that Christ has truly set us free. He wants us to stay free and not tied up again in slavery to the law. It means that we don’t have to be legalistic and strictly following it just to appear good. That’s why he summed all laws to “Love God above all, then love your neighbor as yourself.”
PRAYER
Lord, help me when I am being legalistic.
REFLECTION
How can you enjoy freedom God’s way?

CHRIST DIDN’T DIE FOR THE LAW Poem Devotional

butterfly mother's day event 033

October 12                                                                              The Power of God’s Word
For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die. – Galatians 2:21(NLT)
CHRIST DIDN’T DIE FOR THE LAW
A poem and essay by ILMA
Is your legalistic ways confining you to grow?
Do you strictly adhere to regulations and the law?
Christ didn’t die for you to be in a religion
He came so that you can be in a constant relation.
For if keeping the law could make you right with God
What is more important is to seek Him and abide
Love is the only way you can be free from the law
When you walk in love, peace is what you will sow.
The true believer knows that Christ didn’t die so we could only follow a religion. God loves us so much that He wants us to be in constant relationship with him. As an authentic believer, we must be able to walk in love and not just do things for the sake of following. When you love someone, you would do anything to know that person. That is what God expects us to pursue. He wants us to deeply know him. The bible says that if we keep ourselves right by just keeping the law, then it was pointless for Christ to die on the cross.
PRAYER
Lord, help me to seek intimacy with you.
REFLECTION
How is legalism an impediment in walking in love?
