December 26________________________________________
No one who trusts in you will ever be disgraced, disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others. – Psalm 25:3 (NLT)
ON TRUST AND DECEPTION
A poem and essay by ILMA
Those who trusts in the Lord Jesus Christ
They will be guaranteed a shame-free life
The Lord protects those who honor him
He does everything to ensure their integrity.
When you deceive others intentionally
You will be full of shame and disgraced instantly
The Lord commands us to walk in love and peace
He wants us to live in purity and to stay always free.

In my dark past, I have lived with people who have compromised their lives and have no integrity. The hardest people to be with are those who are dishonest and always out to deceive others to get what they want. What a shameful life it was to be these people. I became accessory to their evil ways because I was so scared to lose these relationships. By doing so, I lived a life of shame as well.
I thank God that he has freed me from these lies that I lived in and freed me from the fear of not being loved. I am grateful that I was no longer a slave of my desires and cravings. What matters most to me now is to trust the Lord and obey his commands. When I did, I was freed from shame and guilt.

WHY LIE Poem Devotional
May 16________________________________________
Why have you let Satan fill your heart? You lied to the Holy Spirit and you kept some of the money for yourself. How could you do a thing like this? You weren’t lying to us but to God. -Acts 5:3,4(NLT)
WHY LIE
A poem and essay by ILMA
When you allow Satan to fill your heart
It wouldn’t be long when you will depart
If you lie to others, you are also lying to the Spirit
Why lie when you can choose honesty and integrity?
How could you compromise your loyalty?
Why hoard or live a life of dishonesty?
To lie is to question God’s omniscience
Why would you let this bother your conscience?
________________________________________
Why do people lie? An article on Psychology Today says Participants were provided with the following description of what might constitute lying: Most people think a lie occurs any time you intentionally try to mislead someone. Some lies are big while others are small; some are completely false statements and others are truths with a few essential details made up or left out. Some lies are obvious, and some are very subtle. Some lies are told for a good reason. Some lies are selfish; other lies protect others.
The Bible contains several cautions on lying. Leviticus 19:11 tells us not to lie. Proverbs 12:22 gives us a description how God detests lying lips. When we lie, we lie to the Lord who knows all things.

HARM THAT LIES BRING Poem Devotional
May 12________________________________________
Telling lies about others is as harmful as hitting them with an ax, wounding them with a sword, or shooting them with a sharp arrow. -Proverbs 25:18(NLT)
HARM THAT LIES BRING
A poem and essay by ILMA
Whenever you tell a lie to someone
You are a copycat of Satan
Remember that he is the father of lies
If you concoct lies, you defy life.
Telling lies about others is like murder
It attacks and wounds their characters
Just like a sharp arrow, lies can kill
They can easily corrupt minds for real.
________________________________________
John 8:44 says “For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.” Jesus was speaking to the Jews when he said this verse. He was exposing their evil deeds in this story. The Jews where lying and maligning Jesus because they were so threatened by Jesus’ authenticity which is the opposite of their hypocrisy. In this verse we get a clear picture of Satan. He loved do evil and was a murderer from the start. He hated the truth and was consistently telling lies. Proverbs clearly identifies the harm that lies bring. It is like killing others.

GOD CAN’T LIE Poem Devotional
October 11
________________________________________
God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind.
-Numbers 23:19(NLT)
GOD CAN’T LIE
A poem and essay by ILMA
Have you been betrayed by someone’s lies?
There is one who never lies and that is Jesus Christ
He became human but he is supreme over all man
He is not weak like us, he is majestic and grand.
Christ’s very nature is love so he can’t engage in lies
He sees all things and always do what is right
God is love so he is can only do loving things
He is faithful and perfect and will never engage in lying.

According to mentalfloss.com, in a 2002 study conducted by the University of Massachusetts, 60% of adults can’t have a ten-minute conversation without lying at least once. We lie to everyone. Our parents get the worst of it, according to The Day America Told the Truth, with 86% of us lying to them regularly, followed by friends (75%), siblings (73%), and spouses (69%). But in general we lie about things that aren’t important.
I think the first lie ever told is when Adam and Eve committed the original sin and was asked what they have done. Both of them lied, pointing at each other. Our fallen nature makes us lie, but we can avoid lying supernaturally by God’s power alone.
PRAYER
Lord, keep me from all kinds of lies.

ON DECEIVING YOURSELF Poem Devotional
ON DECEIVING YOURSELF
September 2
________________________________________
The prudent understand where they are going, but fools deceive themselves.
-Proverbs 14:8(NLT)
ON DECEIVING YOURSELF
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you believe that there is wisdom in God’s word?
Are you following the standards of this world?
The prudent understands where they are going
The fools on the other hand keeps on denying.
If you allow Scriptures to convict and teach you
You’ll have understanding and be led to the truth
Those who are fools deceive themselves continually
They don’t depend on God so they are defeated constantly.
________________________________________
There are many ways that the enemy tries to deceive us. Sometimes he uses human reasoning to make us believe that we can do things on our own strength. The bible says that we can only successfully do things through Christ. Without him, we can never defeat the enemy or be victorious to stay pure and faithful to the Lord. There were quite a number of years when I deceived myself into thinking that I was good at many things, giving myself credit for every achievement and talents I excel in. I boasted and became arrogant taking credit for the glory that wasn’t mine. Finally, after many years of success, God stripped me off all that I was good at. He convicted me that the gifts were supposed to be used for his kingdom gain and not for my own selfish gains. Scriptures showed me how to learn to give him all the glory.
PRAYER
Lord, help me never to deceive myself.

ON TELLING LIES Poem Devotional
September 11________________________________________
Telling lies about others is as harmful as hitting them with an ax, wounding them with a sword, or shooting them with a sharp arrow. –Proverbs 25:18 (NLT)
ON TELLING LIES
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you ever resort to hiding the truth?
Telling lies never bring good fruit
When you attack someone else’s reputation
You are hurting others and your salvation.
Lying is as harmful as hitting others with an ax
You have no right to change the facts
Telling lies is like wounding them with a sword
Doing it is living in the standards of the world.
________________________________________
Satan lied at the beginning of mankind when he enticed Eve to eat the fruit from the forbidden tree. He conned and tempted her to defy God so she can have the wisdom and power that he has. He made God appear bad by defying the boundary that he gave for Adam and Eve to follow (to refrain from eating from the Tree of Knowledge). By violating the boundary, they started lying too to cover up their disobedience.
Lies breed more lies and other sins. When we decide to cover up or make up a story that is untrue, we hurt ourselves and others.
The bible tells us how detrimental lying is. If you tell lies about others, you are almost like hitting them with an ax, wounding them with a sword, or shooting them with a sharp arrow.
PRAYER
Lord, protect me from lying.
REFLECTION
What was the biggest lie you ever told someone that hurt others?

PENETRATING THE HUMAN SPIRIT Poem Devotional
July 21________________________________________
The Lord’s light penetrates the human spirit, exposing every hidden motive.
– Proverbs 20:27 (NLT)
PENETRATING THE HUMAN SPIRIT
A poem and essay by ILMA
When you deny things to yourself and your brothers
You are only making it hard for each other
The Lord’s light penetrates the human spirit
It cannot hide from the power that is in it.
The light that comes from God pierces the heart
It exposes all that is hidden and all evil that lurks
The light of the Lord is the only one that makes us free
It is the only way that you will be able to see.

Have you ever kept a deep dark secret that you held on for so long? Often than not, those who are very secretive are probably hiding acts that they are ashamed off. They are afraid to be judged or lose the status quo. They cover up or deny things that exist in order to make themselves believe in the lies they made up. In the end, these lies become humongous that it almost become truth. They believe these lies for a long time that it is second nature for them to actually rely on them as truth.
The bible tells us that the Lord’s light penetrates the human spirit, exposing every hidden motive. Just read the bible and you will be convicted by so many things that you usually ignore. There is nowhere to hide in God’s truth.
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for your light.
REFLECTION

MOUTHS FULL OF LIES Poem Devotional
April 3
Save me! Rescue me from the power of my enemies. Their mouths are full of lies; they swear to tell the truth, but they lie instead. – Psalm 144:11(NLT)
MOUTHS FULL OF LIES
A poem and essay by ILMA
When you try to cover up something you did
You usually end up covering your deed
Stay away from people who always tells lies
You will be corrupted and eventually die.
Be in the word and the Spirit of God will guide
When you love God truly, you will abide
Be cautious about what you say and do
Orchestrate your life’s purpose with God’s truth.
Have you ever been around someone who constantly lies? I used to be with someone who was a pathological liar. All that comes out of his mouth are lies or half-truths. Many people who have been blinded by the enemy automatically twists truth and tell lies so that they can use, abuse or get what they want. It was stressful to be around liars. It robs you of peace and generates suspicion, doubt and mistrust. It is very draining to be around liars.
The psalmist in Psalm 144 was pleading God to be rescued from the power of the enemies who are full of lies. They swear to tell the truth, but lie instead. He was pleading God to be delivered from the enemy’s tactic of twisting truths.
PRAYER
Lord, please deliver me from lies and liars.

SPEAK THE TRUTH Poem Devotional
December 14 The Power of God’s Word
The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in those who tell the truth.
– Proverbs 12:22 (NLT)
SPEAK THE TRUTH
A poem and essay by ILMA
Lies can be exposed when one know the truth
It is vital to seek God’s word to have the Spirit’s fruit
If we constantly seek to please the Lord
He will ensure our protection from fraud.
The Lord detests those who tell lies
It opens up the door for the enemy to entice
Speak the truth by declaring God’s word
It will cut the lies perpetuated in the world.
Can you detect when someone is lying? One can never know a person’s intention or motives when they say something. There is a way to know if someone lies to you. The spirit of God tells you. This is called the fruit of discernment or knowledge given to those who have been walking with the Lord. The world calls it a “hunch”, “intuition” or “gut feeling.” Because they do not know God and his word, they have a different term for it. You can also observe the actions of the person telling the lie. They can’t look at you in the eye.
The bible says the God detests lying lips but he delights in those who tell the truth. The only way we can speak the truth is if we know the word of God.
PRAYER
Lord, deliver me from liars.
