MORDECAI’S INTEGRITY AND LOYALTY
A poem by ILMA
There was a Jewish man in the fortress of Susa who was the son of Jair
He was from the tribe of Benjamin and was a descendant of Kish and Shimei
His family had been among those who had been exiled in Babylon
Mordecai had a very young cousin Hadassah who was also called Esther.
When Esther’s father and mother died, Mordecai adopted her as his own
Mordecai had become a palace official in the reign of King Xerxes
One day as Mordecai was on duty at the king’s gate, he heard a plot
It was between two angry door guards who wanted to kill the king.
Mordecai reported the information to Queen Esther and told the king
He was credited for his loyalty and investigation followed
When the plot was verified to be true, Mordecai earned the king’s trust
The two men who were guilty were pierced on a sharpened pole.

MEMORY VERSE
When an investigation was made and Mordecai’s story was found to be true, the two men were impaled on a sharpened pole. – Esther 2:23
Read: Esther 2
In the book of Esther, we get a glimpse of the character of Mordecai. He was a very loving and respectable person who took care of his orphaned cousin and treated her as his own daughter. He was very wise and groomed Esther to be the queen to King Xerxes. Another character trait of Mordecai was his loyalty to King Xerxes. He was able to protect the king from an evil plot to assassinate him. This is a righteous and humble trait that is need from all servants and leaders as well.

REFLECTION
• Why do you think faithfulness and loyalty are traits that are worth emulating in Mordecai’s character?
• How can we stay honest and truthful to those who have authority over us without compromising our integrity?

Do not put your trust in idols or make metal images of gods for yourselves. I am the Lord your God. – Leviticus 19:4(NLT)
GOD WANTS YOUR FULL LOYALTY
A poem and essay by ILMA
Are you consumed by things around you?
Do you allow God to have your mind renewed?
God won’t put up with idolatry
He wants your full attention and loyalty.
Do not put your trust in other gods in this world
He wants you to seek him and follow his word
It pains him to see us waste our time with idols
Why won’t you give your full allegiance to your creator?

What preoccupies your thoughts? How is your day going? Do you have time to give praise and thanksgiving to God? How often do you go out of your way to know more about him and how hungry are you for his word? These questions are not supposed to condemn or make you feel guilty. They are reminders to all of us who sometimes forget to give full loyalty to God.
When God created humans, he was expecting them to give him the same faithfulness that he gives us. He created us in his own image and according to the bible, he is love. If we don’t operate or live like loving people, we are actually destroying the creature that God has made. He forbids us to make other things or other gods a priority.

PRAYER
Lord, thank you for your unfailing love for me.
REFLECTION
What are things that stop you from making God your priority?

Don’t ask me to leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God. – Ruth 1:16 (NLT)
FAITHFUL SERVANT
A poem and essay by ILMA
Are you a faithful servant to the one and only Jesus Christ?
Will you lay down your life to him and others and stay in his light?
Will you go wherever he wants you to go and live in his will?
Will you obey his commands instead of preferring what you feel?
Give your unconditional service to the one and true God
There is no other god who has authority over this earth and above
Make his people, your people and you will have blessings
Do whatever he says and you will never stop harvesting.

Servant is defined as a person who performs duties for others, especially a person employed in a house on domestic duties or as a personal attendant. In the world’s perspective, it is a demeaning role because we live in a society that gives emphasis to power and control. But in God’s economy, being a faithful servant is the purpose of a believer. The bible tells us to follow Jesus, he came in this world to serve, not to be served (Matthew 20:28). Ruth was a faithful servant to her mother-in-law, Naomi and to God and his people.
PRAYER
Lord, help me to better serve you and others faithfully.
REFLECTION
How can we serve those people who are difficult and hurting us?
