JESUS COMES FIRST
A poem and essay by ILMA
When you commit to be a follower of Jesus
Nothing or no one else is very precious
Jesus must always be your priority
Otherwise, you won’t have the authority
Only through Christ can we be brave
Jesus must come first, then you can be saved
If you want to be his disciple, focus on him
It will make you overcome temptations to sin.

“Blood is thicker than water” is a saying that means that the ties that bind are stronger when it comes to family than people outside the family. However, in the bible, Luke 8:21 says that our mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice. Our spiritual family isn’t necessarily our blood kin. It may be any believer who applies God’s word in their lives.
It was very difficult for me to believe this old saying that blood is thicker than water because I didn’t feel that I belonged to my own family. I am so blessed now to have found a family of believers where I belong. You can’t be a disciple of Jesus if you don’t make him first in your life.________________________________________
PRAYER
Lord, help me to never prioritize anyone but you.
REFLECTION
Why do people sometimes make their family first than God? What’s wrong with that?

DISCIPLES PRIORITIZE GOD
A poem and essay by ILMA
When you decide to follow Christ
Changes happen when you prioritize
You will make him first in all you do
You will be transformed and renewed.
The world will seem not as important anymore
God’ word will guide you through trials and storms
No one else including your own needs matter much
Following God’s will become top priority in your life.

When I was a teacher of speech and visual arts, there were some students who chose to follow the lessons I taught to advance their skills. You will clearly see the difference of those who chose to be disciples of my methods. They excelled through hard work and constant practice. I emphasized on discipline and dedication plus constant practice. This formula became my life’s theme and I shared to students how it brought me success in the field of communications and visual arts.
The bible tells us what God requires of his disciples in Luke 14:16. One of the things God wants us to do is to make him our priority in everything. He asks us not to let any of our love for anyone, not even our own life will come first than him. He becomes top priority.________________________________________
PRAYER
Lord, remind me when I don’t prioritize you.
REFLECTION
Why do you think God wants to be the top on our list if we become followers?

A FOLLOWER’S PRIORITY
A poem and essay by ILMA
Are you a true believer of Jesus Christ?
Are you willing to give up everything including your life?
A true Christian seeks him first in everything
They are not ruled by selfish desires or material things.
If you want to be a follower, you must make him your priority
Even your family must not come between your loyalty
Remember, Jesus shed his blood to set you free
You must sacrifice your life to serve him faithfully.

What are your prized possessions? For so many years, my son was my life. I did everything for him and made him the center of my life. Since I was a single mom, I got so wrapped up living my life for him and making all the sacrifices I needed to do to ensure that he was loved and looked after. There is nothing wrong with loving your own children, but if they come between you and God, then there is something amiss with that picture.
The bible tells us that one of the requirements of being a disciple or follower of Jesus is to make him first in everything. Even your family should only come second to God.
PRAYER
Lord, let me never lose focus on you.
REFLECTION
How is loving others first than God going to open doors for defeat in your life?
