WHEN YOU TEST GOD’S SPIRIT Poem Devotional

May 17________________________________________
How could the two of you even think of conspiring to test the Spirit of the Lord like this? The young man who buried your husband are just outside the door and they will carry you out, too. – Acts 5:9 (NLT)
WHEN YOU TEST GOD’S SPIRIT
A poem and essay by ILMA
When you try God’s Spirit
You will have a lot of difficulties
Do not ever conspire to test it
Some people died from doing it.
Do not grieve the Holy Spirit
Unless you want to perish from it
Trust whatever God’s word says
He faithfully keeps his promises.

In Acts 5, a certain man named Ananias who, with his wife, Sapphira, sold some property. He brought part of the money to the apostles, claiming it was the full amount. With his wife’s consent, he kept the rest. Their conspiracy to test God’s Spirit was fatal. The property was theirs to sell or not sell, as they wished but after selling it, the money was also theirs to give away. They lied instead to the apostles which cost them their lives. Peter the apostle warned him that he shouldn’t test God’s spirit by lying. When we lie to others, we are actually lying to God and grieving his Spirit.
You may think that it seems so lethal that lies can kill, but it actually separates you from God which is actually a spiritual death.

God is light and there is no darkness in him at all. So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth.
– 1 John 1:5-6(NLT)
PRACTICE THE TRUTH
A poem and essay by ILMA
When you first heard the truth about God who is our Father
Did you also heed his command to love your sisters and brothers?
God is light and there is no darkness in him at all
Practice the truth by living in light so you don’t fall.
To live in the light means that you’ll live by God’s word
You will give up darkness that is in this corrupted world
If we claim that we love Jesus yet live in darkness
We are lying because we are not in his righteousness.

In John 17:14, Jesus says that the world hates God’s children because they do not belong to the world, just as he doesn’t belong to it. James 4:4 cautions us not to be friends with the world or we become an enemy of God. Matthew 6:24, it talks about the impossibility of serving two masters which will eventually bent on one.
We are called liars if we claim we love God but live in darkness. We cannot live in this world and love it because God’s kingdom is not of this world.
PRAYER
Lord, let me always practice truth by living and doing what you require from me.
REFLECTION
What happens when we live double lives claiming we believe in Christ and yet love the world?

ON TELLING LIES Poem Devotional

September 11________________________________________
Telling lies about others is as harmful as hitting them with an ax, wounding them with a sword, or shooting them with a sharp arrow. –Proverbs 25:18 (NLT)
ON TELLING LIES
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you ever resort to hiding the truth?
Telling lies never bring good fruit
When you attack someone else’s reputation
You are hurting others and your salvation.
Lying is as harmful as hitting others with an ax
You have no right to change the facts
Telling lies is like wounding them with a sword
Doing it is living in the standards of the world.

Satan lied at the beginning of mankind when he enticed Eve to eat the fruit from the forbidden tree. He conned and tempted her to defy God so she can have the wisdom and power that he has. He made God appear bad by defying the boundary that he gave for Adam and Eve to follow (to refrain from eating from the Tree of Knowledge). By violating the boundary, they started lying too to cover up their disobedience.
Lies breed more lies and other sins. When we decide to cover up or make up a story that is untrue, we hurt ourselves and others.
The bible tells us how detrimental lying is. If you tell lies about others, you are almost like hitting them with an ax, wounding them with a sword, or shooting them with a sharp arrow.
PRAYER
Lord, protect me from lying.
REFLECTION
What was the biggest lie you ever told someone that hurt others?

July 23                                                                                 The Power of God’s Word
Keep me from lying to myself; give me the privilege of knowing your instructions. I will pursue your commands, for you expand my understanding.
–Psalm 119:29, 32(NLT)
FREEDOM FROM LYING TO SELF
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you know the lies the enemy plants in your head and heart?
Do you catch yourself from believing these lies that draw you apart?
The only way to be free from lies is by knowing God’s instructions
God’s word and commands debunk these lies and brings salvation.
The Word expands your understanding and guides you to do the right thing
It removes conflicts inside you and brings peace and freedom from lying
Pursue his commands so you will be protected from deception
This way, you will be able to detect the enemy’s ploy from its conception.
It is easier to see external conflicts because they are outside of the self. Inner conflicts can be trickier. The enemy attacks us especially when we are stressed out, tired and out of balance. Wholeness is important to keep us free from lies. it is very important for us to stay healthy and study God’s word. The bible tells us to pursue God’s commands so we will have understanding and be able to discern the lies that the enemy plants in our heads and hearts. It protects us from lies.
PRAYER
Lord, keep me in your truth.
REFLECTION
How can studying God’s word free us from lies?
