OBEY AND DESTROY IDOLS Poem Devotional

November 13________________________________________
You were not to make any covenants with the people living in this land; instead, you were to destroy their altars. But you disobeyed my command. – Judges 2:2(NLT)
OBEY AND DESTROY IDOLS
A poem and essay by ILMA
When you commit to the Lord Jesus Christ
Are you ready to be transformed in your life?
The Lord wants you to honor your covenant with him
He doesn’t want you to open any doors to temptations.
When he asks you to destroy idols that attracts
He is protecting you from what will distract
Idols open doors for the enemy to attack
They are portals to keep us in the dark.

Many people think that idols refer only to other gods. This is what the enemy wants us to think and believe. The bible says that the devil is very cunning and he does a good job in masking idols by using people or things that we love. When we start to lose focus on making God as first, we are already compromised. The moment we can’t bear losing something or someone, it is another symptom of idolatry. There were many years of my life that I was an idolater. I made the only child I have as my world and did not realize that it was taking time away from God. The book of Judges reminds us that we have a covenant with God. We must honor and obey it so we can stay pure.

PRAYER
Lord, help me to honor the covenant you have with us.
REFLECTION
What idols have God asked you to give up?

OBEDIENCE: A SPIRITUAL WEAPON

November 4________________________________________
This is how I spend my life: obeying your commandments. – Psalm 119:56(NLT)
OBEDIENCE: A SPIRITUAL WEAPON
A poem and essay by ILMA
Have you submitted yourself to Jesus Christ?
What have you done to imitate his life?
A life of obedience glorifies the Lord
It leads to you overcome this world.
Without obedience, one can’t have victory
Rebellion is how we are attacked by the enemy
When we follow God’s instructions
It becomes a weapon against temptations.

Many of the people that God used in fulfilling the promise of a Messiah had one thing in common. They were all obedient to God’s call. Abraham was the epitome of complete surrender to God’s call. In Genesis 12, Abram was called by the Lord and instructed to leave his native country, his relatives and his father’s family to go to a land that he wasn’t sure of. God instructed him in verse 1-2 that he will show him where that place is going to be and that he will make him into a great nation. In verse 3, God said that all families on earth will be blessed through him. Abram came from Ur in the Chaldees and they were from a pagan land. God used him to bring his people to Canaan, the promised land. Because of his obedience, he became the father of all nations. He became the leader of many nations.

PRAYER
Lord, let me always live in obedience to your will.
REFLECTION
How is obedience a spiritual weapon against Satan?

Love means doing what God has commanded us, and he has commanded us to love one another, just as you heard from the beginning. -2 John 6(NLT)
LOVE EQUALS OBEDIENCE TO GOD
A poem and essay by ILMA
When you say you love God and yet not heed his call
Don’t you open up the door for you to easily fall?
Love means doing what God has commanded
When you rebel, you are sinning and will be tempted.
To obey God’s command to love one another
Is loving him through our sisters and brothers
Submission to his truth shows we are faithful
Defiance to it clearly indicates we are fools.

There are many ways to manifest love to someone. We can shower our beloved with love by agreeing with their values and ideals. Another way is to care for their well-being and to be loyal to them. Sacrificing something we really want is another picture of love. Submitting to each other is another example of manifesting love.
The bible clearly tells us that love isn’t just a word we say to someone. Love means doing what God commanded us. He wants us to love one another as we love him and as we love ourselves. Obedience is a prerequisite to fulfillment of God’s promises for his people. He showered the faithful and obedient with an overflow of blessings and guaranteed them a spot in heaven.
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for protecting us with your commands to love one another.
REFLECTION
Why do you think God puts much emphasis on obedience? What are the consequences of rebellion?
