LIVE TO PLEASE GOD
A poem by ILMA
To all believers, we urge you to live a life pleasing to God
When you live this way already, we encourage you to do so even more
Remember, God’s will is for you to be holy so stay away from all sexual sin
Then all of you will be control his own body and live holy and honorable lives.
Never harm or cheat a fellow believer in this matter by violating his wife
The Lord avenges all such sins, as you were solemnly warned you before
God has called us to live holy lives, not corrupt and impure lives
When we refuse to live this way, we are rejecting God’s Spirit.
We don’t need to tell you of the importance of loving each other
God himself has taught you to how to love your sisters and brothers
We implore you to love your fellow believer even more each day
Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business
Work with your hands and bless others with what you have been given
Then those who do not know the Lord will have a glimpse of him
They will respect the way you live as you give a sample of holy living
They will begin to want to live a life of peace, joy and integrity.

MEMORY VERSE
We urge you in the name of the Lord Jesus to live in a way that pleases God.
– 1 Thessalonians 4:1
Read: 1 Thessalonians 4: 1-12
What amazing message of Paul to the Thessalonians: Live to Please God! As Christians, we need to constantly ask ourselves if we are really following this kind of life that is pleasing to God. Oftentimes, we end up pleasing ourselves or others. We live for this world and not for the heavenly realm that we were created for.

REFLECTION
• How can we continue to live a life of integrity in this very chaotic world?
• Who among the bible characters can you emulate aside from Jesus as holy?

The Lord your God will delight in you if you obey his voice and keep the commands and decrees written in this book of instructions, and if you turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and soul. -Deuteronomy 30:10(NLT)
ON DELIGHTING THE LORD
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you have a passion for knowing God?
Do you seek his word and give him laud?
The Lord your God will delight if you obey
He wants you to hear all that he has to say.
His commands are written in his book
You can read for yourself and look
Meditate on his word day and night
Then you will bring the Lord much delight.

So much of our time are wasted on trying to please the wrong people. Shouldn’t we prioritize pleasing God instead of humans? When we seek human approval, we will be disappointed at some time of our lives. I was an approval addict for many years and I didn’t realize that I was putting much stress on myself until I became so sick for many months. I placed much pressure on myself to live up to expectations of my family members and those I am in relationship with but I didn’t seek God’s approval.
The bible tells us that there is a way to delight the Lord. It is by hearing his voice and keeping his instructions followed.

PRAYER
Lord, help me to prioritize seeking your approval instead of humans.
REFLECTION
How can you develop a habit of seeking to please and delight God?

Those who oppress the poor insult their Maker, but helping the poor honors him.

HELPING THE POOR
A poem and essay by ILMA
Are you aware of those who live in poverty?
Do you go out of your way to help them generously?
The Lord wants you to bless your sisters and brothers
It pleases him when you think less of yourself and help others.
Those who oppress the poor insult their Maker
Those who help them glorifies your heavenly Father
Helping the poor and the oppressed is pure religion
It builds up the body of Christ when you are in relations.

Jesus summed up all the ten commandments in this one in John 13:34-35. It says: “So now I m giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” If you look at the ten commandments closely, each of them will lead to the pre-requisite to love each other as you love God. If you love God as you love one another, you will not misuse God’s name. You will remember to keep holy the Sabbath, honor your parents, not murder or kill anyone, not be unfaithful to your spouse, not steal, not falsely testify against others, not covet anyone or anything that is not yours.
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for simplifying the law into loving you as we love ourselves and others.

WHEN YOU PLEASE GOD
A poem and essay by ILMA
When you please God, you get that joy in your heart
When you please God, you get the chance for a brand new start
When you please God, you are able to go through adversity
When you please God, you become a threat to the enemy.
When you please God, your worldly perspective changes
When you please God, you get strength to face all challenges
When you please God, even your enemies are at peace with you
When you please God, your heart and mind are constantly renewed.

It took many years to find out that I was a people-pleaser. Because I wasn’t showered with affection, attention and love as a child, I learned to get these needs met by people pleasing and performing. By the time I was high school, I was so desperate for love and got into a deep depression and almost ended my life. Thank God, he brought a friend of mine just at the nick of time to save me from suicide. I learned that no matter how much I please people around, I can’t force them to show me love. They probably can’t give it because they too weren’t given love.
The bible encourages us to please the Lord for even our enemies will be at peace with us.
PRAYER
Lord, let there be no other that I would rather please first but you.
