July 29 The Power of God’s Word
I will pour out water to quench your thirst and to irrigate your parched fields. I will pour out my Spirit on your descendants, and my blessing on your children.
–Isaiah 44:3 (NLT)
GOD’S PROMISE TO HIS PEOPLE
A poem and essay by ILMA
Believe in God and he will bless your life
Not only will he pour out his spirit on you and bring light
He will pour out water to quench your longing
He will help you in your difficulties and suffering.
God blesses his people and give them provisions
Those who are faithful will be granted revelations
The descendants of the people of God will be blessed
They will reap the promises God made and will have the best.
Do you realize that every blessing you have comes from God? Many people think that it is their own effort that led them to have good paying jobs or wealth. Unbelievers tend to focus on glorifying their abilities, skills, talents, gifts and wealth. They do not know the truth and they believe in lies that keep their lives away from God. The people of God on the other hand are granted discernment and revelations from his truth. The bible says that God will pour out water to quench the thirst of his people and give them his spirit and blessings.
PRAYER
I thank you Lord for all your provisions.
REFLECTION
Why do we need to know God’s promises to the faithful?

ANTIDOTE TO INDIFFERENCE Poem Devotional
June 25 The Power of God’s Word
Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hoped for will come true. Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent.–Hebrews 6:11-12(NLT)
ANTIDOTE TO INDIFFERENCE
A poem and essay by ILMA
Are you full of life or are you indifferent?
Do you live life in peace or in discontent?
Is your spirit seeking God’s kingdom?
Are you passive and living in boredom?
Keep on loving others as long as life lasts
It will bring you victory and make you pass
Your life will be full of hope and have meaning
Loving is the antidote to indifference and sinning.
In weddings, we hear couples declare their vows of love. It is the greatest feeling a person could ever experience. To have someone promise to commit to love you is usually what most people dream about their entire lives. This is because God designed us for love. The world has polluted our genuine desire for love and the enemy has thwarted our priorities by making us gratify ourselves rather than love others. Hate is not the opposite of love, indifference is.
The antidote to indifference is love. Without it, we become spiritually dull and indifferent. When we love God and others, we don’t feel discontent or emptiness. We enjoy life.
PRAYER
Lord, keep me focused on loving.
REFLECTION
How can “love” prevent us from being indifferent?
DO TO THEM AS YOU DO UNTO ME Poem Devotional
May 30 The Power of God’s Word
I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters you were doing it to me. –Matthew 25:40 (NLT)
DO TO THEM AS YOU DO UNTO ME
Do you treat people with kindness?
How often do you grant forgiveness?
Do you allow others to be in pain or suffer?
Do you go out of your way to help and offer?
I tell you the truth, when you do it to your brothers
You are a doing it unto your heavenly father
He wants us to cherish and love one another
That is the only way our life gets better.
How often do you think of Jesus when you do something for someone? Many people do things without even realizing that when they do so, they are actually doing it to the Lord too. How we relate to others is how we relate to God. How we treat someone is also how we treat ourselves. When someone is so angry, he or she is also angry with himself/herself and probably with God as well.
The bible tells us that what we do to the least of our brothers and sisters, we are doing to God. If we ignore others, we also ignore God. If we hate ourselves, we probably hate others and God as well.
PRAYER
Lord, help me to walk in love.
REFLECTION
Why do you think God wants us to love?
GOD’S GRACE POURED IN ME Poem Devotional
May 18 The Power of God’s Word
But whatever I am now, it is all because God poured out his special favor on me. It was not I but God who was working through me by his grace.
–1 Corinthians 15:10 NLT)
GOD’S GRACE POURED IN ME
A poem by ILMA
All that I am and all that I have
Whatever gifts I received I cannot brag
They are God’s grace poured in me
He loves me so much so I can be free.
God’s amazing love pours grace and mercy
He wants us to walk in love generously
He works in us, through us and with us
Even if we can’t understand, we must trust.
Grace is defined as the free and unmerited favor from God. It is given to those whom he loves and he calls his children. There is nothing we can do that will earn us his grace and mercy. Since God is love, it is his nature to shower us with his love through grace.
The bible tells us that we are only able to do and accomplish things because of God’s grace. He pours out special favors to his faithful followers and those who believe and love him. It is wrong to boast about anything we own; any gift we have or any favors we get from him. Without his grace, we will be nothing.
PRAYER
Lord, show me how to proclaim your greatness.
REFLECTION
Why do you think God gives his people grace?
SERVE GOD NO MATTER WHAT Poem Devotional
May 17 The Power of God’s Word
We serve God whether people honor us or despise us, whether they slander us or praise us. – 2 Corinthians 6:8(NLT)
SERVE GOD NO MATTER WHAT
A poem by ILMA
Do you serve God to bring glory and praise?
Continue to be loyal to him, that’s what the bible says
Do you expect honor and recognition for doing so?
The more you must press on when people despise you.
We serve a faithful and loving heavenly father
We ought to bring love to our sisters and brothers
Catering to our agenda is the opposite of serving him
It is by selflessly following his commands that we are redeemed.
The bible tells us that we cannot serve two masters (Matthew 6:24), either you will hate the one or love the other. Sadly, there are so many people who are confused who to serve. Some try to serve both money and God. No wonder their lives are messed up.
We are asked to serve God whether people honor or despise us, whether they slander us or praise us. If we are so concerned to take credit for what we do for God, then we are only fooling ourselves because that is really not serving God but ourselves. Real servants of God are selfless and always points to the source of mercy and grace, the Lord almighty.
PRAYER
Lord, please help me to serve you only.
REFLECTION
Why is it important to be aware who we really serve?
WALK IN LOVE Poem Devotional
May 16 The Power of God’s Word
The Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
–Micah 6:8 (NLT)
WALK IN LOVE
A poem by ILMA
Whenever you show impartiality
You are walking rightly
Whenever you forgive quickly
You are choosing to give mercy.
Walking in love and humility
Wipes out all conflicts and hostility
It breaks all forms of sins and strongholds
It makes us access God’s promises and grow.
The Mechanicsville paper published an article on the statistics of the effects of broken homes. “Did you know that more than three in ten children grow up in broken homes and children from broken homes account for 70% of those in juvenile detention; 57% of all prison inmates; 63 % of teen suicides; 71% of teen pregnancies; 90% of homeless juveniles and runaways; 71% of high school dropouts; 75% of all drug users; and 85% of behavioral disorders. This is the sad truth about the lack of love in our society.
The bible tells us through the prophet Micah what God requires of us. The message is for all of us to do what is right, to love mercy and to walk humbly with him. If we follow these guidelines, we can avoid social diseases in our society.
PRAYER
Lord, help me to walk in your love.
REFLECTION
How can walking in love contribute to a healthy society?
REMAIN IN GOD Poem Devotional
May 10 The Power of God’s Word
Remain in me and I will remain in you, for a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.
–John 15:4(NLT)
REMAIN IN GOD
A poem by ILMA
Do you think you can do anything on your own?
Do you realize that without God, you cannot grow?
Like the fruits to its vine, one cannot do without the other
Remain in God so you can mature and be a blessing to one another.
The fruits of the spirit will present itself if you remain in him
Discernment, knowledge and wisdom, God will bring
All God’s children will reap his promises
By abiding in him, you are granted peace and happiness.
It is sad to see a lot of people living in isolation from God or others. They want to be separate from anyone who would stop them from getting what they yearn for. The bible likens us to the vine and its branches. If we remain in God’s love, He will stay with us. By seeking him and abiding in his love, we produce fruits of the Spirit. Without the choice to seek him in our lives, it will be very difficult to reap these fruits such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Without God, these fruits will not be present.
PRAYER
Lord, keep me in your love.
REFLECTION
Why is it important to remain in God?
BLINDED BY DARKNESS Poem Devotional
May 3 The Power of God’s Word
Anyone who hates another brother or sister is still living and walking in darkness. Such a person does not know the way to go, having been blinded by the darkness. –1 John 2:11(NLT)
BLINDED BY DARKNESS
A poem by ILMA
When you find it hard to forgive
It makes it hard to receive
A person who choose to hate
Finds it hard to understand and relate.
When you constantly choose darkness
It makes you blind and hopeless
If you do not want to let go of sin
You forfeit the chance to be redeemed.
Have you ever related with someone who is unforgiving? I have lived my life with so many unforgiving people. It is so hard to watch them destroy their relationships and go down the road of desperation and anger. I’ve known someone who would never forgive a person who has asked her forgiveness for almost a decade until the day she died. I wonder if she ever forgave her. It is sad to watch people get consumed by hatred and anger. It is toxic, but somehow, the choice not to forgive makes that person blinded to the truth that can set them free.
The bible tells us that if we live in hate, we will be blinded by the darkness we chose. That person continues to live in obscurity and forfeits life.
PRAYER
Lord, show me how to forgive.
REFLECTION
Why is forgiveness essential to continue walking in love?
THE ROOT OF CRAVINGS Poem Devotional
May 2 The Power of God’s Word
For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. –1 John2:16 (NLT)
A poem by ILMA
Do you indulge yourself in pleasures?
Do you get consumed by worldly treasures?
Do you rely on your own efforts to reach ambitions?
Do you take pride in your achievements and possessions?
Be careful you don’t succumb to cravings of this world
They enslave you and give the enemy an opening and a foothold
Yearnings of the flesh are not godly and righteous
They come from this world that is evil and vicious.
Consumerism is defined as the belief that it is good for people to spend a lot of money on goods and services. We are bombarded by all forms of media marketing to consume either a product or a service. These companies pay huge amounts of money to ensure that they create a need for people to purchase their product. They think of all kinds of strategies to persuade us that a want is actually a need in order to make us buy.
The bible tells us that these cravings are not from God but from this world. The moment we boast of our achievements and possessions, we endanger ourselves.
PRAYER
Lord, help me to have humility.
REFLECTION
How can awareness of our cravings keep us humble?
REAP WHAT YOU SOW Poem Devotional
April 30 The Power of God’s Word
Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature, but those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. –Galatians 6:8(NLT)
REAP WHAT YOU SOW
A poem by ILMA
Those who want to satisfy their flesh
Their lives will be chaotic and a mess
To satisfy the sinful nature brings decay
It brings someone in a state of disarray.
People who live to please the Spirit
They will be in constant light and never adrift
Choose to follow God’s commands
This will make you surrender the world demands.
There are many people who live their lives according to the world’s standard. Sadly, some believers do not really live by the Spirit but by their own sinful nature. If a Christian have been raised by parents who never really followed godly standard and grew up surrounded by decay, it would probably be hard to live a life following the Spirit.
The bible tells us that we reap what we’ve sown. It is the most basic principle that life is founded on. If you live only to satisfy your own sinful nature, you will naturally reap death. If you live to please God, then you will harvest the fruits of the Spirit such as love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness gentleness and self control.
PRAYER
Lord, show me how to live for you.
REFLECTION
What’s the consequence of living for yourself?
