Joy has left our hearts; our dancing has turned to mourning. Restore us, O Lord, and bring us back to you again! Give us back the joys we once had. – Lamentations 5:15,21 (NLT)
BRING US BACK LORD
A poem and essay by ILMA
Lord, bring us back to you so we can stop mourning
You created us so we can enjoy life and stop sinning
Restore us, O Lord, and give us back the joys we once had
Free us from lamenting and show us how to be glad.
Bring us back and pull us out from darkness
Help us to recover from this feeling of emptiness
Show us how to become more like you each day
Help us to prioritize you and regularly pray.

Have you had a loss that caused you to grieve? Has this loss made you bitter and angry? Do you know the many phases of grief? There are many ways people deal with losses. Some avoid thinking about it. Others get stuck in bitterness and anger. Some continually blame someone or the Lord for that thing or person they lost. We can wallow in self-pity and lose our joy if we don’t focus on the Lord.
It took me many decades to even realize that I had many loses that got me stuck in anger and bitterness. When God revealed them to me, he restored my grief into joy.

PRAYER
Lord, help me to choose joy even in the most adverse situations.
REFLECTION
How can one bring back the joy once it is gone?

ALL BELONG TO GOD Poem Devotional,
January 9________________________________________
The earth is the Lords’ and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him. Psalm 24:1– (NLT)
ALL BELONG TO GOD
A poem and essay by ILMA
The birds, the trees and all of nature
They all belong to God and we must nurture
We must be thankful for all creatures
We are all equally made no matter from what culture.
Treasure the blessings that God gave us all
He wants to bring us victory and not easily fall
Be good stewards of all that has been given
It will bring us close to him and to heaven.
________________________________________
There are so much blessings that we can thank the Lord for. Everything on earth was all made by the Lord. Isn’t it only fitting that we bring him laud? There have been various distractions that the enemy brings to our lives that hinders us from being grateful and for praising God. There are even people who think that they own stuff and fail to see that without God, they won’t have such things. The enemy twists our minds and heart to think that all that we own is ours. In truth, we have them because God was merciful enough to grant us such blessings. He loves us all so much that he gave us everything we need and could ever want. We must remember that they all belong to him and we must care for them respectfully.________________________________________
PRAYER
Lord, remind me that I own nothing so I can praise you for all that I have.
REFLECTION
What happens if we think that we own stuff?

EAGERNESS TO SERVE Poem Devotional
December 21________________________________________
Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly-not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God.
-1 Peter 5:2(NLT)
EAGERNESS TO SERVE
A poem and essay by ILMA
We are all asked to be good stewards of God’s blessing
Are you able to watch over it willingly and not grudgingly?
An eagerness to serve God manifests your faithfulness
Those who are ungrateful cannot hide their carelessness.
Whenever you take responsibility over what you are given
You are showing that you love God and you’ll taste heaven
When you are diligent and persistent to grow in your faith
You are surely going to reap rewards and change your fate.
________________________________________
Have you ever been with someone who drags himself or herself to do things? I know someone who wouldn’t show eagerness to do something for someone. He only does his duties and never do something out of love. It was hard to watch this person always looking glum and depressed. There is no signs of happiness or contentment in his face. All you can see is a lifeless creature moving and walking around, just like a zombie. This person claims he is a Christian. What a disgrace to God’s kingdom to see this zombie-like creature.
Christians are expected to be good stewards of God’s blessings for it shows eagerness to serve him.
PRAYER
Lord, deliver me from discontent and complaining.
REFLECTION
Why is eagerness to serve an important factor in opening up heaven’s gates?

VICTORY THROUGH FAITH Poem Devotional
October 24
________________________________________
For every child of God defeats this evil world and we achieve this victory through our faith.
– 1 John 5:4(NLT)
VICTORY THROUGH FAITH
A poem and essay by ILMA
Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will ensue
It is waiting eagerly and abiding in him and in what is true
For every child of God wins over this wicked world
We will have victory by confessing his powerful word.
Don’t ever lose hope when you can’t see results
God knows what’s best, so do not revolt
Keep on growing your faith so you can win
It is the best way you can overcome sin.
________________________________________
One of the best verses about faith is the centurion’s story in Matthew 8. In ancient Rome, “centurion” meant “captain of 100”. The backbone of the Roman army were the centurions who were legionaries. The centurion received pay that amounted to more than 20 times the ordinary soldiers pay, about 5,000 denarii per year.
In Matthew’s account, the centurion stooped down in humility and asked Jesus to heal one of his servants who was paralyzed and in terrible pain. The officer’s words “I am not worthy to have you come in my house, but only say the word and my servant will be healed,” is one of the strongest manifestations of faith. Jesus himself was amazed by him. Because of his faith, he was granted healing for his servant.
PRAYER
Lord, give me a faith that never wavers.
REFLECTION
Why do you think faith is the foundation of victory over sin?

IDOLS SAP STRENGTH Poem Devotional
August 2
________________________________________
Worshiping foreign gods has sapped their strength, but they don’t even know it.
-Hosea 7:9(NLT)
IDOLS SAP STRENGTH
A poem and essay by ILMA
What distracts you from worshiping the Lord?
What things or people prevent you from giving him laud?
How much time do you use up for things that are worldly?
Do you realize they sap you of time, strength and energy?
Prioritizing God in all you do will bring you prosperity
Leaving him last will deplete you and deprive you of victory
There is only one God who can deliver you from the enemy
Christ is all knowing, all powerful, loving and full of mercy.
________________________________________
There is a misnomer that idolatry only involves other foreign gods. The enemy prevents us from knowing and seeing that even other things and people can become our idols. An idol is something or someone that keeps us away from praising and worshiping the only one true God, Jesus Christ. A job can easily be an idol. If we spend long hours on it and never acknowledge God for the blessing of being employed, we are idolizing our jobs. If our relationships hinder us from being close to God, we are compromising our intimacy with God and these people become idols.
The bible talks about how the Israelites’ idolatry of foreign gods have sapped them of their strength without being aware of it. Idols distract us from focusing on God.
PRAYER
Lord, show me instantly what idols I have in my life.
REFLECTION
What idols does the enemy use to keep you away from God?

HEIRS OF GOD’S KINGDOM Poem Devotional
June 9
________________________________________
God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of heaven is theirs. – Matthew 5:3(NLT)
HEIRS OF GOD’S KINGDOM
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you live an impoverished existence?
Do you have a need for God’s providence?
God blesses those who ask his guidance and help
He blesses those who don’t focus on themselves.
Those who are poor and realize God in their lives
They will be heirs of the Kingdom of Christ
They’ll be rich because heaven will be theirs
The Lord grants as soon as he hears their prayers.
________________________________________
Many people get stuck in this worldly place we live in not knowing that this is not our destiny. The world we inhabit is only a temporary place or a “stopover” so we can continue to reach our real purpose in life which is to be one with our creator in heaven. Whenever someone receives an inheritance, there’s usually a condition that is tied up with such legacy being handed down to them. It may be because they are a dearly loved one or they are someone special to the deceased.
The Lord promised those who are poor (meaning those who are actually living undignified lives or do not know the Lord) and realize their need for God that they will have his Kingdom. Those who acknowledge their brokenness and need for him will surely inherit his kingdom.
PRAYER
Lord, let me never deny my need for you.
REFLECTION
Why do you think poverty and humility is the gateway to heaven?

RIGHT WORDS AT THE RIGHT TIME Poem Devotional
March 21________________________________________
Everyone enjoys a fitting reply; it is wonderful to say the right thing at the right time!
-Proverbs 15:23 (NLT)
RIGHT WORDS AT THE RIGHT TIME
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you think before words come out of your mouth?
Do you wait for the right time before you blurt out?
Everyone enjoys a fitting reply through the right words
Do you conform with God’s truth or with the world?
Right words at the right timing is crucial in relationships
It builds up good relations instead of conflicts
We must all take time to choose what we say
By doing this, we can triumph and keep Satan away.
________________________________________
Have you ever said something that later on you regretted saying? The bible says that we should be slow to speak and quick to listen in James 1:19. When we put a rend in our mouths, we are actually guarding ourselves from one of the biggest trick that the enemy does to us. He loves to steal, kill and destroy. More often, he would just whisper lies to us and make us react to little or trivial matters and make us fight with others. Satan knows how to steal our time, money, peace, relationships. Shouldn’t we be able to take time to understand how we can fight this unseen battle? One way we could fight him is to choose our words and say it in God’s timing.
PRAYER
Lord, help me to rend my mouth.
REFLECTION
What makes us say the wrong things at the wrong time?

ON JEALOUSY & SELFISHNESS Poem Devotional
December 19________________________________________
Jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual and demonic. For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambitions, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.–James 3:15-16 (NLT)
ON JEALOUSY & SELFISHNESS
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you ever envy someone else’s status or possession?
Where there is jealousy, there is selfish ambition
Jealousy and selfishness are partners in crime
They will bring you disorder and evil of every kind.
Jealousy and selfishness are both rooted in pride
You can win these evil by being close to God and abide
When you find yourself comparing and wanting more
Be careful for the devil can enter your wide open door.
________________________________________
Lack of love and attention as a child taught me how to be jealous. I was criticized and minimized a lot. As a result, I became very insecure and wanting to be given attention. I also learned to compare myself with others especially when my caregivers would say that others were better than me. I became focused on performing to get attention and love. The world taught me to be jealous and insecure as a result of my experiences.
The bible tells us that jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom. These are considered unspiritual and demonic. It says that jealousy and selfish ambition are partners and the result of these partnership is disorder and evil of every kind.
PRAYER
Lord, free me from jealousy and selfishness.
REFLECTION
Relate a time you were either jealous or selfish.

SON OF GOD Poem Devotional
November 21
________________________________________
The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy and he will be called the Son of God. –Luke 1:35(NLT)
SON OF GOD
A poem by ILMA
A virgin mother will give birth to the promised Savior
She will conceive a baby because God gave him favor
The power of the most high will overshadow humanity
This child will be the Son of God and will have all the glory.
When Christ was born, the Star in Bethlehem shone so bright
It led the kings to give honor to Mary’s child, Jesus Christ
The Holy Spirit protected the Son of God from danger
They ensured that he is warm in swaddled cloths in the manger.
He was the king of kings but chose to be born in a feeding trough
He had a life full of ridicule, rejection and was very rough
Why did God choose ordinary people to bring Jesus in the world?
He wants to show his power in weakness and through his word.
As we remember the Son of God born in humble origin
Let us follow his example; reject wickedness and sin
Christmas is the day the Son of God was given to us sinners
It is the day to proclaim God’s majesty and be a true believer.
PRAYER
Lord, use me to proclaim your glory by humility this season of love.
REFLECTION
How can we illumine the darkness in this world this Christmas?

LIKE A MOTHER’S COMFORT
October 4________________________________________
I will give Jerusalem a river of peace and prosperity. I will comfort you there in Jerusalem as a mother comforts her child. – Isaiah 66:12,13 (NLT)
LIKE A MOTHER’S COMFORT
A poem and essay by ILMA
When your life is full of challenges and trials
Do you run to God for comfort or are you in denial?
God promises his people to have peace and prosperity
He consoles you like a mother gives comfort and stability.
The Lord nurtures us and wants us to grow in love
He commands us to love one another and look above
He is faithful to meet your needs and be there for you
He will lavish you with blessings and make your life new.
________________________________________
Mothers are one of the greatest gifts that God gave mankind. Without them, we will never be born. They have a special place in God’s heart. He has given them the responsibility to nurture and be the first person to show love to the baby. Even in the womb, the woman was given a special bond to communicate her love for the unborn child. She was chosen by God to be instrumental to bring life into this world.
The bible clearly shows us that God is very nurturing and loving. He is love. He promises those who love him that they will have peace and prosperity. He comforts his people like a mother comforts her own child.
PRAYER
Thank you for all mothers and using them to bring life and love.
REFLECTION
Share an experience when God comforted you like a mother would.
