But the people grew impatient with the long journey and they began to speak against God and Moses. –Numbers 21:4-5(NLT)
SIN OF IMPATIENCE
A poem and essay by ILMA
If you lose your cool when you don’t get things right away
There is a danger to grumble wanting things your way
When you think that you shouldn’t wait on anyone
The sin of impatience opens up the door to the evil one.
Each time you succumb to impatience
There are more sins to face, so be patient
When you react negatively to waiting
It will lead you to react and much grumbling.
________________________________________
My father didn’t like waiting on anyone. The ironic thing is that my mother is not a very punctual person. Maybe God put them together to learn something from each other. I guess my impatience was handed down to me by my father but was reinforced in my life when I lived with a very impatient and angry man. I literally walked on eggshells when I lived with this person because he exploded each time someone kept him waiting. He is a punctual man and he expects no less from others. Each time someone desecrates his punctuality, he would go on a rage fit and as a result, lost many job offers and friends because of his explosions. The bible tells us clearly that impatience led the Israelites to grumble and speak against God and Moses.
PRAYER
Lord, deliver me from impatience.
REFLECTION
How can one develop the virtue of patience?

Your heart was filled with pride because of all your beauty. Your wisdom was corrupted by your love of splendor. –Ezekiel 28:17 (NLT)
PRIDE DISGUISED
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you take pleasure in your beauty?
Do you desire to be adored by everybody?
Pride can be disguised in many ways
The enemy will do everything to sway.
Watch what your heart is filled with
Is it filled with love and not full of guilt?
Fill your mind and hearts with God’s truth
It is the only way that your heart will stay pure.
________________________________________
Ezekiel 28 talks about the King of Tyre in this chapter. In verses 13 to 19 the details of how God crafted a model of perfection, full of wisdom and exquisite beauty. It also talks about how his beauty became an impediment for him to be with God. Isn’t this still very true in our present age now? We are bombarded with materialism and love for what this world can offer: beauty, wealth, success, money, power and many more.
The bible warns us of the many ways that pride can be disguised. It can manifest in many ways. In Ezekiel 28:17, we are asked to watch what we fill our hearts with. Beauty can be a way that the enemy can trick us into turning from God. Human knowledge is another manifestation of pride. If you don’t seek God’s truth, you can be fooled by seeking knowledge.
PRAYER
Lord, guard my heart.
REFLECTION
What manifestations of pride have you struggled with?

HOW PRIDE DECEIVES Poem Devotional

You have been deceived by your own pride because you live in a rock fortress and make your home high in the mountains. –Obadiah 1:3 (NLT)
HOW PRIDE DECEIVES
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you think that you deserve better than others?
Do you think highly of yourself than your brothers?
You associate only with those who please you
You build a fortress so others can’t get through.
You have been deceived by your own pride
The enemy lied so you can lose sight
Keep pride away in your life and you can be free
When pride is present, you are not able to see.
________________________________________
Why do you think pride is a deadly sin? Pride leads to many other sins. The original sin of Adam and Eve is rooted in pride. The serpent enticed the first man and woman to eat the forbidden fruit so they can know everything that God knows and that they will be equal to him. This is clearly a sin of pride. They wanted equality with God. Lucifer who was one of the most beautiful angels also committed the same sin. He became in love with his own beauty and wanted equality with God as well. When someone starts to feel that they are entitled to something than whatever they already have, the sin of entitlement starts which leads later on to pride. The bible cautions us to not be deceived by pride.
PRAYER
Lord, deliver me from pride.
REFLECTION
What manifestations of pride do you still have?

TOO PROUD TO SEEK GOD Poem Devotional

The wicked are too proud to seek God. They seem to think that God is dead.
– Psalm 10:4 (NLT)+=
TOO PROUD TO SEEK GOD
A poem and essay by ILMA
Are you too busy to find time for the Lord?
Do you humble yourself in order to bring him laud?
The wicked are too proud to seek God
¬They have no notion of giving and of love.
They seem to think that God is dead
They don’t respect anyone or dread
Their arrogance will lead to their own ruin
They are consumed by their pride and sin.
________________________________________
The original sin of Adam and Eve was rooted in pride. In Genesis 3:4, the serpent tempts Eve that if she eats from the tree that was prohibited by God, she will know and become like God. It was the desire to be equal with God that made them bite that apple.
What stops people from seeking the Lord? It is usually pride that is the root of all evil. This is why it is considered the deadliest of all sin. This is the reason why humility was modelled by Christ because this is the antidote to pride. The bible says that the wicked are too proud to seek the Lord. They seem to think that God is dead because their minds are twisted by the enemy.
PRAYER
Lord, deliver me from the sin of pride.
REFLECTION
Why do you think people get trapped in pride?

GRIEF & PAIN FROM FOOLISH CHILDREN Poem Devotional

Foolish children bring grief to their father and bitterness to the one who gave them birth.
– Proverbs 17:25 (NLT)
GRIEF & PAIN FROM FOOLISH CHILDREN
A poem and essay by ILMA
When children do not heed instructions
They open the door to a lot of temptations
When an offspring challenges his own parent
It grieves the heavenly father in heaven.
Foolish children bring sorrow to their fathers
They cause pain and bitterness to their mothers
Honor your parents for it will bring you blessings
When you rebel against them, you reap sufferings.
________________________________________
The spirit of stubbornness and rebellion ran in my ancestry. It was one of the many generational sins that my family inherited from past generations. It was almost second nature for me to rebel. Strong willed child is the term they would have used for my attitude, but back in my time, I was labelled the “black sheep.” I didn’t know how grieved and bitter I made my parents back then. Now, I am reaping the same thing I gave my parents from my own son. I am continually praying and breaking all the generational curses and soaking all our iniquities in the blood of Jesus. God instructs us to honor our parents so that life will go well with us. No wonder I struggled in life for many decades due to my foolishness and stubbornness.
PRAYER
Lord, break all forms of pride in me.
REFLECTION
What forms of rebellion do you need to surrender to God?

NOWHERE TO HIDE Poem Devotional

pinery camping 2014 and others 598

March 25
Stop acting so proud and haughty. Don’t speak with such arrogance, for the Lord is a God who knows what you have done. He will judge your actions.
-1 Samuel 2:3(NLT)
NOWHERE TO HIDE
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you really think that God can’t see what you do?
There is no reason to hide or find a place to run to
Stop acting so proud and haughty
Give up arrogance and being snooty
The Lord is a God who knows everything
There is nowhere to hide from a supreme being
He knows what you’ve done and what you’re feeling
He is all seeing, all knowing and all loving
Run back to his arms instead of rebelling.
Have you ever tried to hide a secret that you have done in the past that you were not proud of? Do you have any idea how exhausting it is to keep on hiding and running especially from the people who love and trust you? It is stressful to keep pretending to clean up a mess you have done. Sooner or later, someone is going to discover whatever you have been hiding. There is no secret that God doesn’t know.
The bible warns us from acting proud and being haughty. He doesn’t want us to speak arrogantly. God sees and knows what we are about to do or what we have done. He will judge our actions.
PRAYER
Lord, convict me of pride.
REFLECTION
What must a Christian do to avoid pride?

CRAVINGS FROM THE WORLD Poem Devotional

beatrice at ir's place and hoopwalks 053

Sept 7                                                                        The Power of God’s Word
For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. – 1 John 2:16(NLT)
CRAVINGS FROM THE WORLD
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you long to own things and power?
Is your time consumed by satisfying pleasure?
Are you obsessed to have something?
Do you succumb to every physical craving?
Watch out what your flesh yearns for
It can consume your being and make you a fool
Don’t partake of the longings of this world
Instead, crave for the truth that comes from the Lord.
In the past, multi-tasking and finishing many things in a short period of time gave me so much pleasure. Checking the list of things to do gave me a sense of fulfillment. I took pride in finishing my plans and didn’t realize that they were not aligned with God’s.
What are you pre-occupied with? Do you prioritize work, career or your family than spending time with God? Are you always busy with accumulating money and wealth? Do you take time to devote for relationships with God and others? Cravings from the world are usually longings for things we see, pride in our achievements and possessions. The bible says that they are not from God, they are from this world.
PRAYER
Lord, let me long for you always.
REFLECTION
What are the things you crave?
