ZION, GOD’S CHOSEN DWELLING PLACE
11 The LORD swore to David a sure oath from which he will not turn back:
“One of the sons of your body I will set on your throne.
12 If your sons keep my covenant and my testimonies that I shall teach them,
Their sons also forever shall sit on your throne.”
13 For the LORD has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his dwelling place:
14 “This is my resting place forever; here I will dwell, for I have desired it.
15 I will abundantly bless her provisions; I will satisfy her poor with bread.
16 Her priests I will clothe with salvation, and her saints will shout for joy.
17 There I will make a horn to sprout for David; I have prepared a lamp for my anointed.
18 His enemies I will clothe with shame, but on him his crown will shine.”
– Psalm 132:11-18

Matthew Henry’s commentary says that the Lord never turns from us when we plead the covenant with his anointed Prophet, Priest, and King. How vast is the love of God to man, that he should speak thus concerning his church! It is his desire to dwell with us; yet how little do we desire to dwell with him!
The psalmist recalls God’s covenant with David and how God will never turn his back on Zion as his chosen dwelling place. The Lord desired it and have made it is forever dwelling place. He made a covenant with David that if his sons and descendants keep their promise to make a dwelling place for Him, his sons will be abundantly blessed and provided for. The covenant also ensures that the Lord will shame their enemies and in David will spring forth the promised Messiah. Do we constantly recall the covenant that God made with his people? Are we keeping our temple worthy for God to dwell in it?
