REBELLIOUSNESS Poem Devotional

All day long I opened my arms to a rebellious people. But they follow their own evil paths and their own crooked schemes. – Isaiah 65:2 (NLT)
REBELLIOUSNESS
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you oftentimes question and defy things in life?
Have you purposely disobeyed a command of Christ?
The rebellious spirit wants you to go against the Lord
Fight against being bound by it through God’s word.
Do you know that God always waits on you to obey?
He has your welfare look after, that is his way
Do not follow evil paths and crooked plans
You’ll invite trouble if you resist his commands.

Why are people inclined to rebel instead of obey? Do you notice how children in their innocence still have that tendency to not follow? The spirit of rebelliousness is an aftermath of the first original sin. After the fall of Adam and Eve, we naturally tend to go against rules or laws. The whole theme of the old testament is the rebelliousness of the Israelites against a God who had a good plan for them. This is why it took them forty years to go on a journey to the promised land when it was just an eleven-day travel. Don’t we rebel at some point in our lives? I was freed from this spirit when I became born again. The word of God led me to obey because it was the antidote for it.

PRAYER
Thank you Lord that you are always there to welcome me back when I turn against your will.
REFLECTION
What consequences have you suffered through rebellion?

HEAVEN REJOICES

In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are right and haven’t strayed away.
-Luke 15:7(NLT)
HEAVEN REJOICES
A poem and essay by ILMA
When a sinner repents and returns to the Father
Heaven rejoices because each person matters
God rejoices when one sinner returns to him
It is all He longs for; He wants us free from sin.
There is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner repenting
Than over ninety-nine others who are right and not straying
Remember that you are very precious to your Lord and Savior
He sent his own Son so you can be free and an overcomer.

If you are a parent, you will understand how God feels when one his children repents and comes back to him. When my son was around two years old and he disobeyed something I asked him not to do, I taught him to apologize right away and not let it stay long inside him. He eventually got the habit of apologizing quickly but sometimes I felt it was just an automatic act he does out of fear of the consequences rather than out of love.
The bible says that heaven rejoices over one lost repentant sinner than over ninety-nine who have never gone astray. He longs for us to love him back the way he loves us.
PRAYER
Lord, help me to listen to your voice when I go astray.
REFLECTION
Why does God values so much those who are repentant?

LIKE UNTHINKING ANIMALS Poem Devotional

port elgin camping 2012 223

January 1
These people scoff at things they do not understand. Like unthinking animals, they do whatever their instincts tell them, and so they bring about their own destruction. What sorrow awaits them! – Jude 10-11 (NLT)
LIKE UNTHINKING ANIMALS
A poem and essay by ILMA
What sorrow awaits those who mock the Lord!
They only listen to their whims and reject his word
Like animals, they don’t think but follow their instincts
They bring their own destruction by wallowing in sin.
Those who defy the truth and continually disobey
They become blind and never see the light of day
They cannot reap the harvest from God’s promises
They don’t have God’s Spirit who frees and releases.
What was the most selfish thing you have ever done? Perhaps it is stealing an idea of someone and taking credit for it. It could be controlling someone to do something that will bring them progress and you don’t want to be left behind.
The bible talks about people who defy the truth. It compares lawless people to unthinking animals. Like them, they do whatever their instincts tell them. They justify their sins to serve their own purposes. They become blind to the truth and believe the lies that substantiate their choices and actions. They bring about their own destruction. The bible cautions us to avoid being like them. Sorrow awaits such rebellion.
PRAYER
Lord, teach me to obey you.
REFLECTION
Why do you think we are cautioned never to mock God’s truth?
