Avoiding a fight is a mark of honor; only fools insist on quarreling. -Proverbs 20:3(NLT)
THE MARK OF HONOR
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you avoid quarrels at all cost?
Or do you insist on being the boss?
It is a mark of honor when you avoid fights
Pursue peace, that’s what God wants in our lives.
When you walk in love, there’s no room for conflicts
God wants us to love others and walk in the Spirit
Remember to follow Christ who always served others
He commanded us to love our sisters and brothers.

When people grow up in the midst of conflicts, they automatically react to life either defensively or offensively. I witnessed a life of passive aggression. I didn’t know what peace looked like because I didn’t have a role model for it. When I reached high school, I didn’t realize how much I thrived in arguing. It became mechanical to respond to things by arguing to proving myself right. It was difficult to concede to any suggestions that didn’t jive with my ideas. It became an obsession to argue and I lost so many relationships because of this foolish pursuit. Pride became my lifestyle and I didn’t realize that I was my own idol. Thanks be to God that he delivered me from this and showed me that he wants me to pursue peace at all cost. Avoiding fights is a mark of honor.

PRAYER
Lord, help me to choose peace all the time.
REFLECTION
How can you change a high conflict personality?

HONOR GOD Poem Devotional

No wonder you can’t believe! For you gladly honor each other, but you don’t care about the honor that comes from the one who alone is God. – John 5:44 (NLT)
HONOR GOD
A poem and essay by ILMA
Who do you respect and honor?
Do you prefer to achieve and clamor?
Have you given God recognition?
Are you only obsessed with your ambitions?
No wonder you can’t believe, you are deceived
You cater to your longings so you don’t receive
Bring praise to the only one who is worthy
He is the one who deserves all the glory.

I spent many years of my life catering to my own desires and clamoring for recognition for the things I thought I did. God dealt with me. He slowly took away all those things that brought me so much acknowledgments. When I first began as a self-taught artist, I asked the Lord to grant me success in this field. As I became famous as an artist, I became proud of the achievements. Having sold over four hundred works in my lifetime got in my head.
My faith and dependence on God decreased. I became worldly and whiny, wanting more.
When I moved to Canada, I was literally stripped of the chance to gain more credit for my artistic skills. God had another plan for me. He wants me to give him all the glory. He wants all the honor because he gave me all.
PRAYER
Lord, help me remember to praise you always.
REFLECTION
How do you bring honor to God?

TOO PROUD TO SEEK GOD Poem Devotional

The wicked are too proud to seek God. They seem to think that God is dead.
– Psalm 10:4 (NLT)+=
TOO PROUD TO SEEK GOD
A poem and essay by ILMA
Are you too busy to find time for the Lord?
Do you humble yourself in order to bring him laud?
The wicked are too proud to seek God
¬They have no notion of giving and of love.
They seem to think that God is dead
They don’t respect anyone or dread
Their arrogance will lead to their own ruin
They are consumed by their pride and sin.
________________________________________
The original sin of Adam and Eve was rooted in pride. In Genesis 3:4, the serpent tempts Eve that if she eats from the tree that was prohibited by God, she will know and become like God. It was the desire to be equal with God that made them bite that apple.
What stops people from seeking the Lord? It is usually pride that is the root of all evil. This is why it is considered the deadliest of all sin. This is the reason why humility was modelled by Christ because this is the antidote to pride. The bible says that the wicked are too proud to seek the Lord. They seem to think that God is dead because their minds are twisted by the enemy.
PRAYER
Lord, deliver me from the sin of pride.
REFLECTION
Why do you think people get trapped in pride?
