NEW GEMS OF TRUTH Poem Devotional

December 4________________________________________
Every teacher of religious law who becomes a disciple in the Kingdom of Heaven is like a homeowner who brings from his storeroom new gems of truth as well as old.
– Matthew 13:52(NLT)
NEW GEMS OF TRUTH
A poem and essay by ILMA
When you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ
You will experience a lot of changes in your life
You are promised a life that is eternal
This is God’s promise to all his followers.
A disciple is likened to a homeowner who brings new gems
The truth of God’s word are jewels that we must treasure
When you live for God, you will abound in wisdom
He reveals to you new truth and keep you in freedom.

The years that I lived as an immature Christian versus the six years that I was born again is such a big gap. Before I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior, I relied on human and worldly wisdom. I read all kinds of books under the sun to be intelligent and looked up to. It was very important to me to have the knowledge because it gave me power.
When I became born again, my life was changed. I was never the same. The one thing I discovered was the treasury of wealth that God’s word can give a Christian. It is sad to know that many believers stay immature and not grow as disciples because they haven’t obeyed and seek him.

PRAYER
Thank you Lord for the fountain of knowledge found only in your word.

How can we get spiritually rich in this life?

LIFE THROUGH THE WORD Poem Devotional

October 16________________________________________
Turn my eyes from worthless things, and give me life through your word.
-Psalm 119:37 (NLT)
LIFE THROUGH THE WORD
A poem and essay by ILMA
Each time you consult the word
You will find out more about the world
It makes you see things clearly
It guides you to live life righteously.
Turn your eyes from worthless things
God’s word will make you overcome sin
You will be alive when you obey his commands
It makes you learn to deal with life’s demands.

When I became born again and started studying his word, my whole life changed. I didn’t realize that all the years before that, I was dead. It wasn’t a physical death. I was dead because I was living in sin and out of God’s will. I had no peace or joy because I didn’t know how much loved I was. I wasn’t aware of all of God’s promises until I got to the word of God. It was Scriptures that convicted me of all the wrong things I have done. It was also in His truth that he changed my point of view about the things that really matters in life. I realized how shallow I was. I lived in the world’s standard instead of living a spiritual life.
The bible taught me what are more important while we live in this world. It taught me how to live the life God wants me to live.

PRAYER
Lord thank you that you gave us your word so we can be alive and not dead.

Haven’t you heard? Don’t you understand? Are you deaf to the words of God—the words he gave before the world began? Are you so ignorant? – Isaiah 40:21(NLT)
ARE YOU DEAF TO GOD’S WORD?
A poem and essay by ILMA
How long have you committed yourself to the Lord?
Have you given up the standards of this world?
Have you heard what he wants you to do for him?
Are you still deaf to God’s word and continue to sin?
The Lord has given you his word since it began
Have you been touched by the coming of his Son?
Jesus Christ modeled obedience and humility to all
Are you emulating him so you won’t easily fall?

Studies have linked untreated hearing loss effects to: irritability, negativism and anger. fatigue, tension, stress and depression. avoidance or withdrawal from social situations. Isn’t this so true as well when we are deaf to the words of God? Don’t we get irritable, angry, pessimistic, tired, stressed and isolate ourselves? Our spiritual growth becomes hampered by the inability to feed and get nourished by the words that come from the mouth of God. What keeps us from hearing it or accepting it? Sin is one of the causes why we get deaf to hear what the word is teaching or telling us. Wickedness makes us turn our backs to God and disable us to hear his voice and discern his will.

PRAYER
Lord, give us an ear that can actually hear your voice.

GOD’S WORD IS A SHIELD

Every word of God proves true. He is a shield to all who come to him for protection. Do not add to his words, or he may rebuke you and expose you as a liar.
– Proverbs 30:5-6(NLT)
GOD’S WORD IS A SHIELD
A poem and essay by ILMA
In this world of chaos and confusion
We need a shield from all kinds of temptations
Every word of God proves true
It teaches, convicts and rebukes.
When you read his word and ask the Holy Spirit
It comes to life and shortly, wisdom is released
Do not add to his words or he may reprove you
Allow the Lord to transform and let your mind be renewed.

As a trauma survivor, I learned to manage the anxiety, helplessness and emotional pain that sometimes debilitates me. Complex trauma is an accumulation of various exposure to repeated abuse which can be emotional, physical or sexual or even neglect. Diane Langberg a trauma specialist from the Global Trauma Recovery Institute, used a term that really struck me. She said that people with complex trauma is like being “marinated in pain and confusion.” This is an accurate description of what I experienced. When I became a born again Christian, I was freed from so many lies and learned God’s truth. In his word, I found comfort, relief and freedom. The word shields me from all temptations and trauma memories and taught me how to forgive and let go.
