DANGEROUS TRAP FOR HUMANS Poem Devotional

December 9________________________________________
“Get away from me, Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.” – Matthew 16:23(NLT)
DANGEROUS TRAP FOR HUMANS
A poem and essay by ILMA
When we are enticed to boast about knowing things
We are in a dangerous trap for humans set by the devil
Take authority against evil and rebuke it
If you don’t, you will be ensnared to listen to it.
Watch out when you rely on human reasoning
It is the devil’s tactic to keep you falling and failing
Satan will make you proud so you’ll miss God’s viewpoint
Abide in the Lord and he will make the victor.

One of the tactics of Satan is to trap us. The most common way he steals from us is by keeping us imprisoned in our minds. This is why we are always cautioned in the bible to renew our mind and make it captive to Christ. This is what we humans easily fall into. Satan wants to keep us thinking that we can be equal with God. He steals our trust in God’s power and wisdom and entices us to think that we can rely on our human efforts and reasoning.
When we think highly of ourselves, we have commenced competition with God. This opens doors to more sins. Watch out and don’t trust your own thinking, but seek God’s viewpoint. You’ll fall easily when you do.

PRAYER
Lord, deliver me from the tactics of the enemy.
REFLECTION
How can one easily detect the dangerous traps set by the devil?

SING PRAISE TO THE LORD Poem Devotional

July 25________________________________________
It is good to sing praises to the Lord; to sing praises to the Most High. -Psalm 92:1(NLT)
SING PRAISE TO THE LORD
A poem and essay by ILMA
Sing out loud to praise the Most High
It will definitely change your life
When you glorify the Lord with your voice
You are doing well; you’ve made a good choice.
Sing praise to the Lord Jesus Christ
It will make you prosper and thrive
When you magnify him through psalms and hymns
It is a form of worship that makes you overcome sin.

Someone told me when I was a young girl that when you sing praises to the Lord, He hears more clearly. Because I was gifted with a good singing voice, I always sang out loud at church. I became a church choir member at a young age. That notion about being heard more if I sing my heart out stuck with me for many years of my life. I think it was the Holy Spirit who used that person to let me know that singing praise to the Lord is something that God wants me to engage in.
King David was always playing a musical instrument and singing psalms and writing poetry. The book of Psalms was a compilation of how he magnified the Lord with his gift for music and poetic rhythm. It is good to sing praises to the Lord Most High.

PRAYER
I lift up your Holy Name and give you all the praise you so deserve Lord.
REFLECTION
Why do you think singing is one of the best forms of worship?

POWER THAT FREES YOU FROM SIN Poem Devotional

January 25

So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life giving spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. – Romans 8:1-2(NLT)
POWER THAT FREES YOU FROM SIN
A poem and essay by ILMA
When you committed and gave your life to Jesus
You have been considered very precious
Now, you don’t have to feel condemned
You belong to him and he has redeemed.
In your own strength, you can do nothing
Only God’s Spirit will make you win over sin
Because you belong to him, you live in freedom
He grants this to those who belong to his kingdom.

We live in a society where there is much emphasis in human power rather than in the power that comes from the only source of life, the Lord Jesus Christ. When new year comes, many people make resolutions to change and better themselves. I used to do this but end up frustrated. I was a fool. I didn’t know the truth that without Jesus, I can do nothing. I loved self-help books that empowered me to do things through their advice. When I became born again, the Spirit corrected that wrong notion that I can do things on my own effort. We don’t give the Lord much credit for what he does. Only his power can free us from sin.

PRAYER
Lord, always remind me that I am nothing without you.
REFLECTION
Describe a time when you had supernatural power coming from the Spirit of God.

LESS TALKING IS BETTER Poem Devotional

juanita's unedited 042

February 22________________________________________
The more words you speak, the less they mean. So what good are they?
-Ecclesiastes 6:11(NLT)
LESS TALKING IS BETTER
A poem and essay by ILMA
The more words you speak
The less they mean
Less talking is better for you
You don’t have to explain your views.
Let the word of God be uttered as is
He wants you to share without changing it
The Lord is concise and speaks less
Talking much is futile and meaningless.

I used to talk and explain myself a lot. I have always been a detailed person. I think I became obsessed with details and explaining a lot because I was deprived of talking when I was growing up. It was the way I coped with that freedom to speak up. From a young girl who had no confidence in airing out her thoughts and ideas, I became a very outspoken and opinionated teenager to others outside my family. I got into the theater profession as a stage manager and actress, so that totally changed that quiet soft spoken girl into an over-confident and haughty woman. I loved Philosophy during my college days and I love to read so I could be knowledgeable and show off to others that I am good at many things. I would argue my way into persuading others with my verbosity. The bible tells us to speak less or much words can be used by Satan to make us sin.

PRAYER
Thank you Lord for being concise but a man of few words.
REFLECTION
How do you open doors to Satan when you talk too much?
