I am leaving you a gift-peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So, don’t be troubled or afraid. -John 14:27(NLT)
PEACE OF MIND AND HEART
A poem and essay by ILMA
It is only by believing in the Lord Jesus Christ
That you will receive peace in your heart and mind
The world will never be able to give you such peace
The enemy brings confusion, chaos and conflicts.
The Lord is the only giver of life and peace
Believe in him and you will be able to see
Pursue peace, do not be troubled or fearful
The Lord never leaves you, he is always faithful.

Peace was a novelty in the first fifty years of my life. I thrived in conflicts and confusion. Being marinated in traumas and abuse most of my life taught me how to choose the familiar, which was a life of chaos. When one is exposed to much emotional pain and lack, one learns to live with it. It becomes comfortable to be surrounded by struggles. You even look for it when you don’t have it.
Thanks be to God that he delivered me from the bondage of conflict and pain. When I re-committed my life to him, he put an end to the cycle of confusion and traumas in my life for good. He taught me how to receive the peace he has given me from the beginning of his creation.

PRAYER
Lord, remind me to always pursue peace all the time.

He calmed the storm to a whisper and stilled the waves. What a blessing was that stillness as he brought them safely into harbor! – Psalm 107:29-30 (NLT)
THE BLESSING OF STILLNESS
A poem and essay by ILMA
What is making your life such a disaster?
Is it those dreams that you are after?
Is there a sin that you haven’t confessed?
Why do you fret and not have peace?
Jesus calms the storm to a whisper and stilled the waves
He can pacify you and give you strength to be brave
What a blessing it is if you can be still for the Lord
It brings joy and peace when you give him laud.

I did not know how to be still for over five decades of my life. The enemy kept me in bondage to “busy-ness” and performing to prove that I was really good at what I did. I didn’t even realize how it was affecting my body because I just grinded and grinded and never paid attention to my health. One day, I became so sick that I couldn’t even raise my hands up. I was literally melting like a candle inside me. It took awhile before I was diagnosed with Hepatitis A because the symptoms of a flu are almost the same. I was bed ridden for 3 months. That was how God calmed the storm inside me. That’s when I learned to be still in the Lord.
PRAYER
Lord, show me how to be still always.
REFLECTION
Why is it very hard to be still these days?

PEACE ON EARTH Poem Devotional

Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.
-Luke 2:14(NLT)
PEACE ON EARTH
A poem and essay by ILMA
There is so much chaos and disorder in this world
This is not what God wants for us according to his word
He wants us to give glory to the highest heaven
He wants peace on earth on all his brethren
The real meaning of Jesus’ birth is peace on earth
It is not clamoring for gifts according to our worth
God is pleased when we embrace peace intentionally
He wants us to embrace it so we can live joyfully.

The word peace is defined as an absence of civil disturbance or hostilities, or a personality free from internal and external strife. The biblical concept of peace is larger than that and rests heavily on the Hebrew root slm, which means “to be complete” or “to be sound.” The verb conveys both a dynamic and a static meaning “to be complete or whole” or “to live well.”
I remember growing up in the church saying “Peace be with you”, bowing my head and greeting the other members of the congregation when that part of the mass comes. As the Lord has matured me through his word, I now know that there is much more to it. The bible tells us the real meaning of Jesus’ birth. It means peace on earth.
PRAYER
Lord, grant me peace in my heart.
REFLECTION
How can you relay peace to others this coming Christmas?

CONTROLLING ANGER Poem Devotional

February 6
Don’t sin by letting anger control you. Think about it overnight and remain silent. – Psalm 4:4 (NLT)
CONTROLLING ANGER
A poem and essay by ILMA
Are you able to manage anger when it comes?
It can manifest as irritability or reacting to someone
Anger can consume you if you let it
It can destroy relationships in a swift.
Think about it overnight and remain silent
Be still and dwell on good things and be patient
When you bridle your tongue, you are in control
When you meditate in God’s word, you won’t fall.
Anger is a powerful emotion. God also created anger, so he must have a reason for making it. Ephesians 4:26-27 says “Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger and do not give the devil an opportunity.” This is called righteous or godly anger. When we have children, we get angry with what they do that can hurt them because we love them. God is the same with us. When Jesus tossed all the tables of the vendors in the temple, he was angry that they are desecrating the house of the Lord.
The bible says that we shouldn’t allow anger to control us. One way to have it under control is by reflecting on it overnight and being silent. When you are still, anger dissipates.
PRAYER
Lord, help me to control anger.
REFLECTION
How can “stillness” overpower anger?
