DANGERS OF THOUGHTLESSNESS
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you listen to what God is saying?
Do you hear his voice as you are praying?
Don’t act thoughtlessly, heed his word
Keep your minds uncorrupted by this world.
When thoughtlessness becomes a habit
You will grieve the Holy Spirit
Think of what God wants you to do
Seek the Lord and you’ll know what is true.

Have you ever met someone who is thoughtless? I have been in relationship with many thoughtless people in the past. It was a struggle to maintain sanity and intimacy with people who have an “I don’t care” attitude. No amount of explanation will make them understand the importance of relating with someone. When someone does things without thinking, they are bound to commit mistakes or hurt someone. Speaking out something thoughtlessly will most likely bring a tactless and insensitive statement or comment. When we are absorbed with our own selfish desires or wants, we are unable to hear God’s will for us. The bible tells us to consult the Lord in all things, big or small. We are also asked to love one another like he loves us. One of the dangers of thoughtlessness is that we miss out on what God is saying to us and fail to receive his promises and blessings. Thoughtlessness kills relationships. It isolates us from others.

Lord, give me an ear to hear what you are saying.

How can one become more thoughtful?

ON THOUGHTS AND INTENTIONS Poem Devotional

ON THOUGHTS AND INTENTIONS
A poem and essay by ILMA
Can someone really know what you’re thinking?
The Lord can, he is all-powerful and all-knowing
No one knows you better than he does
Even your own self, you cannot trust.
Do not assume you know other people’s intentions
Or you will open up doors for more temptations
Leave the searching to the one true God
You won’t be able to do it; it is really hard.

When I was a stage actress, I studied the character I am portraying to the minutest detail. I had to understand why I say things and act the way I do or I won’t give justice to my character. The whole production staff brainstorm the entire play. Production usually runs for three to four months of daily rehearsals. We have to study the character even on and off the production sessions. During the pre-prod, we discuss the totality of the story; it’s ups and downs. With the director’s expertise, we are led to look at the idiosyncrasies of the role we play and how he or she is part of the whole story. We cannot make up or add our own thoughts or we won’t give justice to the character as written by the playwright.
The bible says that only God can search our hearts and minds. He alone knows.

SPIRIT RENEWS THOUGHTS Poem Devotional
March 15
Instead, let the spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. – Ephesians 4:23(NLT)
SPIRIT RENEWS THOUGHTS
A poem and essay by ILMA
What is in your mind lately?
Are they righteous and godly?
Are they pure and honorable?
Are they lovely and admirable?
Your thoughts affect your attitudes
If it doesn’t focus on giving God gratitude
It will lead you to ruin and destruction
God’s word always leads you to salvation.
What do you do when your thoughts are going negative? I used to just wallow in wherever my thoughts led me. Since I was a very pessimistic person, it led to many wrong decisions and painful times with those I was in relationship with. The bible says that we ought to think only of what is true, honorable, pure, lovely, commendable, worthy of praise and excellent (Philippians 4:8). Proverbs 23:7 also says that as a man thinks, so is he. As born again Christians, we have the authority to choose our thoughts and align it with God’s. If our thoughts are full of filth, we will also talk and act filthy. However, if it is full of God’s word, then, we will think as God thinks too.
We must let the spirit of God renew our thoughts and attitudes. The Spirit knows what we are thinking and what is in our hearts. If we allow him to renew our thought, we will benefit with a changed attitude as well.
PRAYER
Lord, keep my mind pure.
REFLECTION
How can you cooperate with the spirit to renew your mind?

THE THINGS YOU NEED TO THINK ABOUT Poem Devotional
November 19 The Power of God’s Word
Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.– Colossians 3:2 (NLT)
THE THINGS YOU NEED TO THINK ABOUT
A poem and essay by ILMA
What are the things you think about?
Are they stuff that would make the world light up?
Is your mind full of noise and concerned about getting?
Do you concoct things that are upsetting?
Are you concerned about the welfare of others?
Do you care only for yourself or think of your sisters and brothers?
Think about the things of heaven which are pure and lovely
Let go of worldly matters that do not let you grow spiritually.
What things fill your mind? Are they work-related, wealth obsessing or are they truth that comes from the word of God? Do you find yourself pondering on what you don’t have or do you thank God for every little thing you are blessed with?
Many people think that they have no control over where their minds go. The bible says that as a man thinks, so is he in Proverbs 23:7. Where your mind goes is usually where your heart is. Usually, what you think is also what will come out of your mouth. That is why we are cautioned to control our tongues because it is a deadly weapon that can destroy someone. We need to focus on things that are from heaven and not from this world.
PRAYER
Lord, guard my mind.
REFLECTION
Why is it important to feed on heavenly things?
