LEAVE YOUR CASE TO GOD Poem Devotional

He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. He left his case in the hands of God who always judges fairly. – 1 Peter 2:23(NLT)
LEAVE YOUR CASE TO GOD
A poem and essay by ILMA
When someone hurts you, do not retaliate
Remember God loves you and have you covered
Jesus didn’t fight back with those who hurt him
He prayed for them instead so they can repent of sin.
When you trust in the Lord despite what you’re going through
God will deliver you from suffering and bring the Spirit’s fruits
Follow what Christ did; he quietly suffered and obeyed
Let God’s Spirit lead you to freedom to Jesus who leads the way.

When someone hits or inflicts pain on you, how do you respond? Isn’t it automatic for us to react with either defense or retaliation? One of the many reasons why there has been a high divorce rate today is because we respond with the fight or flight reaction. When Jesus was here on earth, we didn’t hear stories of him walking away or abandoning someone who asks for help. He didn’t fight back or engage in useless discussion of who is wrong or right. He didn’t mislead others by saving himself. Instead, he only spoke of truth and obeyed God’s will. Even though he could have evaded the cross, he left his case to God and followed his will.

PRAYER
Thank you for teaching us how to respond with love to those who hurt us.
REFLECTION
How can we avoid automatic fight or flight reactions?

THE REWARD FOR TRUSTING GOD

July 28                                                                        The Power of God’s Word
You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him and you rejoice with a glorious inexpressible joy. The reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls. – 1 Peter 1:8-9 (NLT)
THE REWARD FOR TRUSTING GOD
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you love God with all your heart, soul and mind?
Will you trust him now that you can’t see answers or find?
Will you continually love him even though you have never seen him?
The reward for being faithful is that your soul will be redeemed.
Trust is the foundation of all relationships
Without it, there will always be conflicts
Whenever you trust in the name of Jesus Christ
Your life will be peaceful and be illumined by his light.
Do you find it hard to believe something or someone you can’t actually see? Human nature wants to visually experience something before they believe. Even the apostle Thomas had to see and hold Christ’s hands before he believed that Jesus Christ was actually resurrected. It shows how limited our minds and hearts are. It takes practice to actually grow one’s faith. If we continue to make a choice to believe and trust God, we will gain inexplicable joy and enjoy have eternal life.
PRAYER
Lord, show me how to totally trust you in everything.
REFLECTION
Why do you think “trust” is an essential ingredient in relationships?
