IT WAS BY FAITH
A poem by ILMA
It was by faith that Sarah was able to have a child at a very old age
Though she was barren, she believed God will keep his promise for a child
It was by faith that Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice when God tested him
Abraham reasoned that if Isaac died, God was able to bring him back to life again.
It was by faith that Isaac promised blessings to his sons, Jacob and Esau
It was by faith that Joseph at his deathbed said that the Israelites would leave Egypt
It was by faith that Moses’ parents hid him for three months when he was born
They knew God gave them an unusual child so they hid him from being killed.
It was by faith that Moses chose to share the oppression of God’s people
Instead of enjoying pleasures, he thought it better to suffer for Christ’s sake
It was by faith that Moses left the land of Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger
He kept right on going because he kept his eyes on the one who is invisible.
It was by faith that Moses commanded the people of Israel to keep the Passover
It was by faith that the Israelites went walked through the Red Sea as on dry ground
It was by faith that the Israelites crushed Jericho’s wall when they walked around it
It was by faith that Rahab the prostitute was not destroyed when her all died
For she had given a friendly welcome to the spies so they can carry out their plan.

MEMORY VERSE
It was by faith that Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice when God was testing him. Abraham, who had received God’s promises, was ready to sacrifice his only son, Isaac. – Hebrews 12:17
Read: Hebrews 12:11-31
There were so many examples of faith in the bible. These people were ordinary people made extraordinary by the faith that they exhibited. That is why God built on their trust in him and used them to make his promises come true.

If God is for us, who can ever be against us? – Romans 8:31(NLT)
WHEN GOD IS FOR US
A poem and essay by ILMA
The moment we accept God, we are given power
We can overcome evil and let the devil cower
If God is for us, who can be against us?
Fear nothing! Seek God and constantly trust.
Why do you worry about many things?
He’ll never leave you, he wants you to win
Hold on to your strength that comes from Jesus
He loves you much; To him, you are precious.

There are many things that we are afraid of. The bible says that the opposite of love is not hate but fear. It also says that we were not given a spirit of fear and timidity, but of love and power. So, how come that even some Christians do not live a life of love and power?
Have you ever been enslaved by fears that kept you from trusting the Lord’s faithfulness? I used to fear the unknown and what the future is going to bring. It made me become obsessively controlling, trying to beat what lies ahead and analyzing and presuming that I can always handle things for my benefit. Sadly, life doesn’t work that way. There was always something that I cannot control like the weather, other people’s decision and choices or even my own emotions. If God is for us, who else can beat us?

PRAYER
Lord, thank you for staying by my side always.
REFLECTION
How can you focus on who is for you rather than fear?

I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God.
1 Corinthians 2:5(NLT)
TRUST IN GOD’S POWER
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you rely on your own strength and understanding?
Remember that your mind has limits comprehending
God on the other hand has boundless wisdom and power
Why won’t you trust him so that the enemy will cower.
He gave us his presence when we believed in him
We need to trust his Spirit’s prodding so we can win
Depending on human strength and knowledge is foolish
It will lead to failures and make us impoverished.

Many people put so much premium on their intelligence and knowledge. They take pride in knowing things that not other people possess. I used to be this kind of people. I read books and keep myself updated with information so I can have something to say to others whenever I get into conversations with them. I loved to argue and win a discussion, but thanks be to God that he freed me from such trivialities. It just showed how shallow I was and how immature it is to show off things that don’t really matter to God much.
The bible tells us that human understanding is limited but God’s wisdom is boundless. God designed this so that humans will find strength in their weaknesses and depend on God’s wisdom and power.
PRAYER
Lord, help me remember that I can only have strength through you.
REFLECTION
When was the last time you witnessed to man’s limited understanding compared to God’s boundless wisdom?
