He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. He left his case in the hands of God who always judges fairly. – 1 Peter 2:23 (NLT)
IN GOD’S HANDS
A poem and essay by ILMA
Are you experiencing oppression?
Do not wallow in sorrow and depression
Has someone crushed your heart?
Leave it in God’s hand, he will sort it out.
When Jesus was insulted, he never reacted
When he suffered, he never retaliated
Christ left his case in God’s hands
He continue to obey his commands.

In the past, when someone hurls unkind words to me, I react automatically with harshness. When I get hurt by someone, I used to get even by plotting revenge. I was taught to fight back and assert myself when I am being treated unfairly. My early childhood traumas taught me to retaliate so I can protect myself from harm. It became my coping mechanism.
The bible clearly describes how Jesus responded to all the beatings, betrayals, insults, and abuse he experienced here on earth. He never retaliated or answered back to any accusations or injustice. Instead, he just kept his mouth shut like a lamb to its shearers. He humbly allowed them to do what they did to him in order to fulfill what Scriptures said. He left his case in God’s hands because he trusted God’s plan and his love and mercy.
PRAYER
Lord, show me mercy when I am sinning.
REFLECTION
How would you react or respond to abuse and rejection?

TAKE REFUGE IN THE LORD Poem Devotional

It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in people.
– Psalm 118:18 (NLT)
TAKE REFUGE IN THE LORD
A poem and essay by ILMA
Are you tired, challenged or questioned by others?
Were you betrayed by one of your sisters or brothers?
It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in men
God deeply cares for us than any other human.
If you trust people, they may not live up to your expectations
Take refuge in the Lord and bring your supplications
The Lord is faithful to respond and grant you your needs
If you ask in his name, he is faithful to provide and give.
Have you ever experienced betrayal? It hurts to be let down by people especially if they are someone you love or very close to you. Most people take a long time to get over betrayals. Expectations play a vital role in relationships. When we have certain expectations of someone that we keep to ourselves and do not reveal it, we are opening the door for trouble. If that someone fails to live up to such expectations, we can feel betrayed. There are others who really purposely deceive others. The bible tells us to only take refuge in the Lord rather than to trust in people.
PRAYER
Lord, remind me to run only to you always.
REFLECTION
When was the last time you were betrayed by someone you love deeply?

WHEN CRUSHED AND OVERWHELMED Poem Devotional

June 15                                                                          The Power of God’s Word
We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it. In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead. –2 Corinthians 1:8-9 (NLT)
WHEN CRUSHED AND OVERWHELMED
A poem and essay by ILMA
When times are tough and you are crushed
You must rely on God and trust
Even though you feel you can’t endure
You will overcome this trial and mature.
When you are ignored, ridiculed and belittled
Don’t lose hope and be defeated
Stop relying on yourself and turn to God
He has the answers and he will provide.
There are times when I feel so crushed and overwhelmed. It usually is a sign that there is some unmet need or that my expectations are not met. Do you think God expects you to do something for him or be someone that you are not? Many people live without uncovering the lies that was passed on to them by generations of traditions and rituals.
The bible tells us to rely on the Lord, when we are crushed and overwhelmed. God is a god who can raise the dead. In other words, no matter how bad the situation is or how seemingly hopeless it is, God has an answer.
PRAYER
Lord, give me strength to carry on.
REFLECTION
Why is “trusting” God the only solution to overwhelming situations?
