Watch, for the day of the Lord is coming when your possessions will be plundered right in front of you. – Zechariah 14:1(NLT)
POSSESSIONS ARE WORTHLESS
A poem and essay by ILMA
What do you own that makes you feel superior over others?
Is it your wealth that makes you discriminate your brothers?
Why do you cling to your belongings in this world?
Possess nothing that competes with the Lord.
Worldly things do not last long and are temporary
Pursue God and his word and you will be extraordinary
Possession are worthless especially on judgment day
Don’t hoard for it will be plundered in every way.

Hoarding is defined as “to accumulate for preservation, future use, etc., in a hidden or carefully guarded place.” Hoarding disorder is a persistent difficulty discarding or parting with possessions because of a perceived need to save them. A person with hoarding disorder experiences distress at the thought of getting rid of the items. According to the Mayo Clinic, it’s not clear what causes hoarding disorder. Genetics, brain chemistry and stressful life events are being studied as possible causes. Doctors point to a number of potential causes for hoarding. These include difficulty processing information, beliefs about possessions, and the emotional distress associated with discarding items or possessions. To the compulsive hoarder, each and every item is of value – often an exaggerated value. We are warned in the bible that possessions are worthless especially on judgement day.
PRAYER
Lord, teach me to let go of things that have no value in your kingdom.
REFLECTION
What worldly things are you clinging to?

WEALTH SLIPS FROM SINNERS Poem Devotional

December 13                                                            The Power of God’s Word
God gives wisdom, knowledge and joy to those who please him. But if a sinner becomes wealthy, God takes the wealth away and gives it to those who please him. – Ecclesiastes 2:26 (NLT)
WEALTH SLIPS FROM SINNERS
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you seek the truth and abide in God’s word?
Are you ruled by the standards of this world?
God gives wisdom, knowledge and joy to the godly
He takes care of them and gives them prosperity.
If a sinner becomes rich and wealthy
God takes it away and gives it to the needy
Their possessions last only momentarily
He gives it to the righteous to alleviate their poverty.
One of the causes of poverty is selfishness. When we do not give, we do not reap so much as well. God wants a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7). This verse says that God provides for all our needs and if we give generously from our hearts, He will give us an overflow and still have plenty leftover to share with others.
In Ecclesiastes, God promised a reward to those who please him: wisdom, knowledge and joy. He warns sinners who accrue riches. Their wealth will slip away from them because he will give them to those who are faithful to him.
PRAYER
Lord, help me to seek you and be generous to others.
REFLECTION
Why do you think God strips sinful wealthy people of their wealth?

SECRET TO LONGEVITY AND PROSPERITY Poem Devotional

November 26                                                                     The Power of God’s Word
Does anyone want to live a life that is long and prosperous? Then keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies.- Psalm 34:12-13 (NLT)
SECRET TO LONGEVITY AND PROSPERITY
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you want to live a long and prosperous life?
Have you been feeding on the word to be in the light?
Do you take care of your heart and your body?
Does your mouth talk about things that are pure and godly?
If you want to live long and be wealthy
You ought to keep your tongue from words that are filthy
Keep lies out of your lips then you will gain prosperity
When you follow Christ, you will thrive and have longevity.
So many seminars on prosperity are taken by people obsessed with getting rich. In God’s economy, there is a different secret ingredient to have longevity and be prosperous. Psalm 34 speaks about the formula to gain long life and wealth. It says that we must keep our tongues from speaking evil and our lips from telling lies.
I suspect that unbelievers will find this key ingredient very bizarre because they don’t understand how God operates. An authentic Christian who has walked with God long enough and has spiritually grown knows that everything that thrives is a result of a pure heart and a good mouth.
PRAYER
Lord, deliver me from lies.
REFLECTION
Why do you think people tell lies and speak evil?

HARD WORK PAYS Poem Devotional

003
July 13 The Power of God’s Word Wealth from get-rich quick schemes quickly disappears; wealth from hard work grows over time.–Proverbs 13:11 (NLT) HARD WORK PAYS A poem and essay by ILMA Those who work hard and persevere will grow They will have a bountiful harvest from what they sow Wealth will be easy for them to attain They have God who faithfully sustains. All the blessings in life, they will have For as long as they live, they will not starve Those who get rich quickly will not be rich for long They did not work hard enough to be that strong. Hard work is usually behind the success of wealthy people. Wealth does not necessarily mean rich in money and possessions. Some people are wealthy in talents and skills. Others are rich in friendships and family relations. I am blessed with creativity and God has been faithful to shower me with productivity that blesses others as well. When I spent time with God and thanked him for all he gave me, I was prosperous and prolific in my endeavors. The bible tells us that quick get rich wealth disappears easily while wealth derived from hard work grows over time. Do your best to work hard and do not obsess with getting rick quickly because it doesn’t last. Thankfulness is a big part of being prosperous and wealthy. PRAYER Lord, help me to be faithful to you. REFLECTION How is wealth and prosperity a result of hard work?
