Get wisdom; develop good judgment. Don’t forget my words or turn away from them. Don’t turn your back on wisdom, for she will protect you. Love her and she will guard you.
-Proverbs 4:5-6 (NLT)
WISDOM PROTECTS
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you run to God’s word for guidance?
Obeying Scriptures will keep sin at a distance
Good judgment is developed from the truth
It leads to wisdom and the Spirit’s fruit.
Don’t turn away from God’s revelations
It guards you from succumbing to temptations
Seek God and his word and it will protect you
It keeps your heart pure and your mind renewed.

So many people live today without guidance from God. No wonder their lives are all messed up. It is a very dangerous and risky thing to go through life without a map. Just like tourists needs a guide and a map to traverse to a new place, we also need the word or God and his truth to navigate to our destination in this world. Some people do not realize the power of Scriptures to guide us to live the life that God wants for us.
The book of Proverbs emphasizes the importance of wisdom and good judgment in our lives. When we turn to God’s word, we automatically get protection from the world’s view.
PRAYER
Lord, help me navigate to your will for my life.
REFLECTION
What will happen if we do not run to the word for wisdom and guidance?

THE WISDOM OF LISTENING Poem Devotional
April 6
Fools think their own way is right, but the wise listens to others.
-Proverbs 12:15 (NLT)
THE WISDOM OF LISTENING
A poem and essay by ILMA
A fool thinks only of himself
He doesn’t care for others or try to help
A fool always thinks he is right
He never listens but always fights.
The wise listens to others
He cares for his sisters and brothers
He fears the Lord and obey his word
He guards his heart to overcome the world.
Do you know someone who never listens to anyone? I was once a very selfish and haughty person. I never really cared much for others but I always wanted to get my way. Because I wasn’t given much love and attention as I was growing up, I learned to protect myself from rejection and criticism. I vowed to myself that no one can hurt me again. I became numb to others and learned to self-protect and relied only on myself. I hardened my heart to others and to God.
The bible says that there is wisdom in listening to others. Fools think that their own way is right. We are instructed by God to love him first, then ourselves as we love others. When we think only of ourselves, we remove others and God in the equation. The result of such removal is pain and hardened hearts. God created us for himself and for others.
PRAYER
Lord, show me to be caring and loving.

Why is listening important in our lives?

WISDOM RESULTS FROM DISCIPLINE Poem Devotional
April 4
Only a fool despises a parent’s discipline; whoever learns from correction is wise.
– Proverbs 15:5(NLT)
WISDOM RESULTS FROM DISCIPLINE
A poem and essay by ILMA
Have you ever defied your parent’s instructions?
Do you find yourself in many adverse situation?
Wisdom results from following the wise
It will benefit your life if you listen to good advice.
Only a fool despises his parent’s discipline
It usually breeds poverty and suffering
If you honor your parents, your life will go well
If you defy correction, pain and conflicts dwell.
The spirit of rebellion and stubbornness ran in my family of origin. I didn’t know that they were sins until the Lord showed me. 1 Samuel 15:23 says that Rebellion is a sinful as witchcraft and stubbornness as bad as worshipping idols. This biblical verse confirms the gravity of these sins. The saga of the Israelites to reach the Promised Land took longer because of these sins. God considers disobedience or defiance as a form of rebellion. Romans 13:1-2 says that everyone must submit to authority for all authority comes from God and anyone who rebels to authority is rebelling against God and will be punished.
Proverbs 15:5 says that whoever learns from correction is wise and only fools despise their parents’ discipline. This saying brings to us to Ephesians 6:2-3 which commands us to honor our parents so things will go well for us if and have long lives.
PRAYER
Lord, show me how to obey.
REFLECTION
Why do you think God wants us to obey our parents?

FILL YOUR LIVES WITH CHRIST Poem Devotional
March 18
Let the message about Christ in all its richness fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. –Colossians 3:16 (NLT)
FILL YOUR LIVES WITH CHRIST
A poem and essay by ILMA
What are you busy with in your life?
Are you referring to God’s insights?
Let the message about Christ fill your lives
Teach and counsel each other so you can thrive.
Fill your mind and heart with the word of God
You will find that life is easier and not that hard
Sing psalms and hymns with hearts that are thankful
Let the Spirit touch your life and make it powerful.
What is a successful life for you? As a Christian, our success should not be the same as the way the world view success. It shouldn’t be about power, fame, wealth and beauty. A successful Christian is someone who is deeply intimate with the Lord, knows the character and will of God and is living what God wants for him or her.
The bible tells us to fill our lives with the message about Christ because it is rich. We must counsel and teach with all the wisdom he gives. We must be thankful and show such gratitude by singing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs and give God all the credit for making our lives victorious.
PRAYER
Lord, let me be intimate with you daily.

POWER & WISDOM OF GOD Poem Devotional
February 18
Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. –1 Corinthians 1:24(NLT)
POWER & WISDOM OF GOD
A poem and essay by ILMA
When we believe and follow Christ in our lives
It exposes all darkness and the enemy’s lies
The Son of God is the epitome of his Father
Christ exudes all of God’s power.
It is through Jesus alone that we can gain wisdom
God used his Son to bring us to freedom
Through Christ, we clearly see God’s insight
The power and wisdom of God is manifest in Jesus Christ.
The amazing act of love God showed his children was manifested when he gave Jesus to save us all from sin. Many believers do not fully comprehend this great act of generosity. If they do, they wouldn’t take for granted every gift they receive from God.
Do you know that Jesus Christ is actually God’s power and wisdom? When we believe in Christ, we also trust in God’s existence. When we seek Christ, we also seek our father. They are one and the same.
The bible tells us that Jesus Christ is the very power and wisdom of God. It means that when we search and seek Christ, we also seek God. If we reject Christ, we also reject our heavenly Father. It is only through Christ that we gain power and wisdom. Without him, we are nothing because all things come from God.
PRAYER
Lord, draw me closer to you.
REFLECTION
What power have you received from knowing Christ?

WISE WORDS BRING HEALING Poem Devotional
July 12 The Power of God’s Word
Some people make cutting remarks but the words of the wise bring healing.
–Proverbs 12:18 (NLT)
WISE WORDS BRING HEALING
A poem and essay by ILMA
Are you careful what words come out of your mouth?
Do you allow only good thoughts in your mind and let bad out?
Do you speak to encourage or do you make cutting remarks?
Does wisdom come out of your lips or does conflict sparks?
Some people say things that are mean and discriminating
The words of the wise bring encouragement and healing
Take into consideration other people’s feelings
Seek God’s truth and you will get all the blessings.
Have you ever been around wise people? They often bring you clarity and wisdom. Even as a young girl, I always want to be around older people because I get wise words and wider perspective on various things. My grandfather was a man of wisdom. He makes me feel secure and always encourage me especially when I am confused or bombarded with problems. Some people just make you feel loved and accepted while others mostly criticize and judge you all the time.
The bible says that the words of the wise bring healing. Wisdom comes from the word of God. Seeking him and following his commands bring wisdom and discernment in our lives. Stay away from fools and be with wise people.
PRAYER
Lord, deliver me from fools.
REFLECTION
Why is it important to be with wise people?
INNER BEAUTY THROUGH WISDOM Poem Devotional
June 28 The Power of God’s Word
How wonderful to be wise, to analyze and interpret things. Wisdom lights up a person’s face, softening its harshness.–Ecclesiastes 8:1 (NLT)
INNER BEAUTY THROUGH WISDOM
A poem and essay by ILMA
How wonderful to be wise and analyze things
It makes you have confidence in almost everything
One who has wisdom will profit from it
It makes a person’s face soft and constantly lit.
Whenever you behold a wise person
Their face radiates and is softened
Their eyes light up reflecting God’s light
Their aura is a product of a well lived life.
Who do you consider beautiful? Is it the ramp models flaunting those clothes? Is it the actors and actresses in Hollywood who are famous for what they portrayed? Is it someone who is able to afford to have facelifts and alter their looks? I consider those who went through a lot in their lives and have overcome their troubles through their faith and wisdom the most beautiful people. They have that inner peace and confidence that is not arrogant or proud. I got a compliment today from a friend on a photo of me. She said that my face radiates with joy. I thank God for what he has done in my life. He changed me to a new person in Christ. Wisdom lights up a person’s face, softening its harshness.
PRAYER
Lord, let me bask in your truth.
REFLECTION
Why is having a relationship with God the best makeover one can have?
WAYS OF THE WISE Poem devotional
June 23 The Power of God’s Word
Wise words bring many benefits and hard work brings rewards. Fools think their own way is right but the wise listen to others.–Proverbs 12:14-15 (NLT)
WAYS OF THE WISE
A poem and essay by ILMA
Fools focuses on their own thoughts and think they are always right
The wise listen to others and not rely on their own sight
Fools always talk their way into getting attention
They always have to get their way to avoid rejection.
The wise works hard to improve regularly
They are always involved in others happily
The wise listens to advice and others’ perspective
They reap a bountiful harvest and is always progressive.
Do you know someone who is wise? What kind of life do they live? Wisdom is the ability to think and act using knowledge, experience, understanding, common sense and insight. Wisdom has been regarded as one of four cardinal virtues; and as a virtue, it is a habit or disposition to perform the action with the highest degree of adequacy under any given circumstance. A knowledgeable person is not necessarily wise. Knowing is only one aspect of Wisdom, the application of knowledge on certain situations is wisdom. The bible tells us that wisdom brings many benefits to us. Involvement in others usually guards us from acting like fools. Self centeredness inhibits wisdom.
PRAYER
Lord, help me to focus on others.
REFLECTION
Why is it wise to shift the focus from ourselves to others?
