THE WORD BECAME HUMAN
A poem by ILMA
Before anything came into existence, the Word was already there
The Word was with God and the Word was God and already existed
God made all things through him, and nothing was made except through him.
The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to all.
The light shines in the darkness and the darkness can never extinguish it
God sent a man, John the Baptist, to tell about the light so all might believe
John himself was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light
The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into our lives.
He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him
He came to his own people, and even they, mocked and rejected him
But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to belong to God
They are reborn—not with physically but a birth that comes from God, our Creator.
So, the Word became flesh and made his home here on earth
And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son
From his abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another
For no one has ever seen God. But the Son is revealed God to us.

MEMORY VERSE
God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. – John 1:3-5
Read: John 1:1-18
The essence of Christianity is the truth that the Word, who is Christ, has already existed even before the creation of all things. God made all things for him and through him. When a believer’s life is focused on the Alpha who is also our Omega, we are living the truth.

REFLECTION
• Why does the epistle of John calls Jesus as the Word?
• Do Christians really understand the meaning of God making creation through Christ, with Christ and for Christ? How should that manifest in their lives?

WORDS CAN DEFILE Poem Devotional
December 6________________________________________
The words you speak come from the heart-that’s what defiles you. – Matthew 15:18(NLT)
WORDS CAN DEFILE
A poem and essay by ILMA
What have you been saying lately?
Does it edify or hurt someone immensely?
The words you speak come from the heart
It can defile you or it can make others glad.
Guard your mouth for it reflects what is inside you
Ensure that you are the person Jesus made new
Words can destroy or edify; it is powerful
Do you use it to encourage others to stay faithful?
________________________________________Many people have been defiled by what they have said. The bible says that the one thing that can tarnish our person is the words that come out of our mouths. In Proverbs 18:21, we are warned that death and life lies in the power of the tongue and those who love it will eat its fruits. Proverbs 21:23 says that whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble. The book of James gives us a good lesson on restraining our tongues. He reminds us that we all stumble in many ways and if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to control his whole body.
What we say is a reflection of the condition of our hearts. If we encourage and help, we have stayed pure, but if we criticize and put down someone, we have defiled ourselves.

LIFE THROUGH THE WORD Poem Devotional
October 16________________________________________
Turn my eyes from worthless things, and give me life through your word.
-Psalm 119:37 (NLT)
LIFE THROUGH THE WORD
A poem and essay by ILMA
Each time you consult the word
You will find out more about the world
It makes you see things clearly
It guides you to live life righteously.
Turn your eyes from worthless things
God’s word will make you overcome sin
You will be alive when you obey his commands
It makes you learn to deal with life’s demands.

When I became born again and started studying his word, my whole life changed. I didn’t realize that all the years before that, I was dead. It wasn’t a physical death. I was dead because I was living in sin and out of God’s will. I had no peace or joy because I didn’t know how much loved I was. I wasn’t aware of all of God’s promises until I got to the word of God. It was Scriptures that convicted me of all the wrong things I have done. It was also in His truth that he changed my point of view about the things that really matters in life. I realized how shallow I was. I lived in the world’s standard instead of living a spiritual life.
The bible taught me what are more important while we live in this world. It taught me how to live the life God wants me to live.

PRAYER
Lord thank you that you gave us your word so we can be alive and not dead.

June 19

Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep you’re your heart, for they bring life to those who find them. – Proverbs 4:20-22(NLT)
WORDS THAT BRING LIFE
A poem and essay by ILMA
Are you experiencing discouragement lately?
Have you been feeding on Scriptures faithfully?
When you listen carefully to what God’s word says
It will bring you to your knees and call you to pray.
Let the word of God penetrate deep in your heart
Meditate on it each morning for a good start
They bring life to those who find them
It brings them wisdom; they thrive when they abide.

Have you ever read a regular book that changed and transformed your life? I did have one in my late twenties when I got hold of a book entitled “The Power of Positive Thinking” by Norman Vincent Peale. I was a Christian and a young mother but I wasn’t born again that time. I haven’t even read the bible when I bumped into this book. It taught me to change my very negative thinking by suggesting a “thank you” diary. I was in a transition in my life at this period of my life. I was desperate for change. It actually changed my attitude from complaining to thankfulness. What I didn’t know then was it all came from the bible. The words of God brought life into a desolate life.

WORD GIVES LIFE Poem Devotional
April 7________________________________________
He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. -James 1:18(NLT)
WORD GIVES LIFE
A poem and essay by ILMA
When God created the world
He breathed on it and spoke the word
The word brings life when it is uttered
It shines God’s light so bright and alive.
When you seek his true word, you give birth
Things multiply and continue to get big
The truth also brings about joy and freedom
It brings us closer and closer to God’s kingdom.

Before I became born again, I had no idea how powerful the word of God was. I didn’t know that it could set me free. I didn’t even realize that it will bring healing to me in all aspects of my life. I underwent so much traumas and it manifested in my body, mind and spirit. I was sick physically, emotionally and mentally. When I became born again and recommitted my life to Jesus, the first instruction I got was to feed on his word. I didn’t understand it at first. How can it heal me bodily, mentally and emotionally? I thought that it was only something spiritual that it deals with. When I finally obeyed God’s word, it literally exposed the lies that I believed for many years. I became aware of all the sins and the darkness I lived in. After seeking the truth, I was released from darkness.

ACCEPT THE WORD Poem devotional
June 3________________________________________
So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls. – James 1:21 (NLT)
ACCEPT THE WORD
A poem and essay by ILMA
You were saved when you believed in Christ
He gave you his word so you can choose life
So, get rid of all the filth and humbly accept the word
He placed them in your heart so you will win over the world.
What is stopping you from feeding on God’s truth?
Why haven’t you allowed for it to take root?
The word of God has the power to save your soul
It can fill your hearts and mind and make you whole.

It is puzzling to know that there are Christians who have not fully accepted the word of God in their lives. They have no idea what they are missing. One of the benefits on feeding on God’s truth is that you become wise and mature in your walk as a believer. I often wonder when I meet Christians who have been born again many years and yet still act like baby Christians.
The more we study the word of God regularly, the deeper our intimacy with God would be. Sadly, we get side-tracked with the busy lives we live that are superficial and not beneficial for our salvation. Accept the word of God.

WORDS REFLECT YOUR HEART Poem Devotional
November 22________________________________________
Luke 6:45 –What you say flows from what is in your heart. (NLT)
WORDS REFLECT YOUR HEART
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you hear what comes out of your mouth?
Does it resonate God’s truth aloud?
Did you say something to encourage someone?
Or did you hurt somebody and made them run?
What you say flows from what is in your heart
When you speak lies, you are living in the dark
When you align your mouth with God’s word
You will be able to win over sin and the world.
________________________________________
Do you ever listen to what comes out of your mouth? Despite my analytical mind, it took me a while to actually objectively hear what I say. One day, when I caught myself on a video that I was preparing for a performance for a show, I saw my attitude towards my husband. I was shocked to hear and see what kind of a haughty person I was when I get so much into perfecting a performance. I was rude, unkind and demanding. It was ugly. I played it again and again. I felt the Holy Spirit convict me of that spirit of pride and performance that kept me in bondage for so many years. My words and attitude reflected the condition of my soul and heart. I was hurting and angry. What I say and how I act was coming from my deeply wounded soul.
PRAYER
Lord, help me to keep my mind and heart pure.
REFLECTION
How can we guard what we say and do?

WORD BRINGS LIGHT & LIFE Poem Devotional
May 15
________________________________________
The Word gave life to everything that was created and his life brought light to everyone.
-John 1:4 (NLT)
WORD BRINGS LIGHT & LIFE
A poem and essay by ILMA
God breathed life to all creatures through his word
It has power and it brings light to the entire world
His Word brings light especially to those living in darkness
It releases power and strength to the helpless and hopeless.
Whenever you seek the Word, you are filled with life
Those who are blinded by the world, lose their sight
The word is life to those who believe and obey
Say it out loud regularly especially when you pray.
________________________________________
God created everything by breathing life on his creation. Words are very important. They can encourage, uplift or destroy someone. Saying out loud what is in your mind has power. Have you ever experienced saying something that you regretted later on? What you usually utter cannot be taken back anymore. We have to be careful what we say. Confessing with the mouth is one of the most powerful tool to defeat the enemy. Jesus used Scriptures to talk back to the devil. He reminded the enemy of the truth.
The bible says that it is through faith and confessing with the mouth that we can be victorious as Christians. The book of John emphasizes the importance of the word of God. It brings life to those who use it and confess it.
PRAYER
Thank you for your words which bring life and light.
REFLECTION
How has God’s word changed you?

WORD STAYS FOREVER Poem Devotional
January 9
Heaven and earth will disappear but my words will never disappear.
– Matthew 24:35 (NLT)
WORD STAYS FOREVER
A poem and essay by ILMA
All things in this world pass
Our bodies grow old and sag
Our circumstances change
Our points of view range.
Heaven and earth will disappear
God’s word will still be here
If you abide in it, things will be clear
Nothing in this world will bring fear.
The only thing constant in this world is “change.” All physical matters go through change and deteriorate eventually. The book of Ecclesiastes likened our life to a mist. It disappears like it. All the things we work for which we possess can end in an instant. Beauty is momentary. A person grows old and as he or she does, youth is gone and beauty fades away. All the things we cling to are sometimes gone before we know it.
The bible says that heaven and earth will pass away, but the word of God will never disappear. God identifies himself with his word. Scripture is eternal like him. He created the world and mankind using the ”word.” He made everything by breathing “word” to bring it to life. Do we use the “word” to breath with?
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for your word.

THE WORD GIVES LIFE & LIGHT Poem Devotional
November 8 The Power of God’s Word
The word gave life to everything that was created and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness and the darkness can never extinguish it. – John 1:4-5 (NLT)
THE WORD GIVES LIFE & LIGHT
A poem and essay by ILMA
The word of God has power to transform lives
It gives life and light and allows us to thrive
If you are amidst darkness and wickedness
Seek his word and you will pass the test.
God used words to give life to everything
He wants us to use it to overcome anything
Once the light has shone on darkness and evil
All will be exposed and you’ll be free from the tactics of the devil.
It must be frightening to be in a room where you can’t see even a little glimpse of light. Anything can happen in that darkness and you never know when and what will strike you. People who live in the dark are in bondage to the prince of this world, Satan.
The bible says that God created everything by breathing his word on it. His word practically gave life to all things. His word has power and can expose all the darkness because he brings light.
When you find yourself enveloped in darkness, run to his word, confess it aloud and the light will expose all evil activities lurking in it.
PRAYER
Lord, deliver me from evil.
